Hi! I'm new to this board, but I've been reading a lot of articles here for some time and I've found answers to almost everything I wanted to know... But I have a question for you guys: Does the Exchange 2007 support e-mail hosting features? Like right out-of-the-box or do you have to do all kinds of tweaking to get it working as in the Exchange 2003 version? It's really weird that they don't support this... Any help or pointers would be of great help!! Thanks in advance! Regards, Satheesh Varadharajan Oslo, Norway

It's possible to deploy Exchange 2007 in a hosted environment but you still need to do a lot of tweaking, which is why MS made the Exchange Hosted Solution package for ASPs. Unfortunately E2K7 want be supported in the this package before several months after E2K7 RTMs.

Henrik-I have the exact same question on how to do this. I posted in TechNet and newsgroups without any replies. I would be willing to pay someone to write a how to on this for Exchange 2007. I know you wrote a couple of articles on how to do this in 2003. I pre-ordered your book to hoping some insight might be in there :-)! Anyway, I need to know how to do this for just 3 domains I am holding. I think the part I am missing is security settings in Exchange 2007, but I am sure there are other things I need to do as well. Any documentation you have would be helpful, as Microsoft is not being very "helpful".

Amit and Henrik- I have written a 29 page guide on setting this up with pretty pictures and step by steps for Exchange 2007. Do you think one of you might want to look at it and maybe use it to put up a how to guide on this site?

I'm working on the AutoDiscover portion now. I am running into this error in Outlook 2007: 12:45:32 Microsoft Exchange offline address book 12:45:32 Not downloading Offline address book files. A server (URL) could not be located. 12:45:32 0X8004010F Now what I did was configure autodiscover.hosteddomainname.com to point to my hosted Exchange server, but of course, the site name doesn't match my certificate of the hosted server (public cert BTW). So then I was thinking, do I have to have a cert for every domain name I host? I would hope that Microsoft would not do this to us, it would get really costly. I came accross this article. http://www.exchangeninjas.com/AvailabilityServiceFAQ and tried to understand it, playing around with ADSIEdit, but I am a bit lost at this point. I need someone else to help in this one. Anyone? GoldenDog

According to info I found on MS's site (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/4172728f-bb70-4579-9d5d-fccdd4afcd80.aspx) It seems that you can set up a non-ssl auto discovery site on the customers domain, which is configured to redirect to the ssl site on the exchange server - this way you don't need to have a cert for all domains. Outlook will supposedly notify the client who will have to confirm the redirect, but that should be no issue. I'm yet to test this though, once I get everything up and running properly I'll post back here. Linc.

Hi there, Also looking at a hosting aspect. The only thing I lack till now is the provisioning of a costumer specific GAL. If I could just remove the GAL and provision just an address list, that would be fine for my scenario to. You can create GAL's but have no idea how to 'assign' these GAL to recipients or users (as you can with the OAB). Any info on a solution for this ? It's my last show stopper BR, Ronald Top

Hi Everyone. I was looking at Istol's posting about http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/4172728f-bb70-4579-9d5d-fccdd4afcd80.aspx and setting up for hosting. Microsoft's site is not very detailed and well documented, in fact, it majorly lacks this on the hosting setup. They say this: For each hosted e-mail domain, you should set up a site together with its corresponding DNS entries. For example, the domain named for example contoso.no should be called autodiscover.contoso.no, and the domain named example.contoso.se should be called autodiscover.contoso.se. In the site in Figure 2, there is no need for any virtual directories and you do not have to set up SSL certificates. In IIS Manager, configure redirection for each of your sites to https://mail.contoso.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. Note: These sites should be configured only for HTTP (port 80) traffic. In IIS Manager, configure redirection for each of your sites to https://mail.contoso.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. Note: These sites should be configured only for HTTP (port 80) traffic. When you configure redirection on these sites, you must use anonymous access and disable authenticated access. Also, make sure that you do not configure other options such as The exact URL entered above, A directory below URL entered, and A permanent redirection for this resource. Configuring redirection in this manner ensures that the Outlook 2007 client receives an HTTP 302 response. After you configure redirection, Outlook 2007 clients will try to connect to https://contoso.no/autodiscover/ and https://autodiscover.contoso.no/autodiscover/ by using an HTTP POST request. Because these sites are unavailable, Outlook will try an HTTP GET request to http://autodiscover.contoso.no/autodiscover. Note: No information, such as the user's e-mail address and password, is sent in this request. Because redirection is configured on this site, IIS will return a 302 redirection response for https://mail.contoso.com/. The client will receive the response and prompt the user to accept or reject the request. The user must accept this request. After this occurs, the client will then be redirected by using an HTTPS POST request. In this example, there will be no security alert. Finally, the client will receive the necessary Autodiscover service response. HERE is the PART I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT: Note: When you configure a redirector to redirect clients to a new site, as in the previous example, additional SSL certificates are not required. However, you must configure additional IIS sites. Anyone tried this and confirm it works???

Update to my last post: I followed the instructions, and everything seems to work for my hosted domain, however, in Outlook 2007, when you setup the Exchange account, Outlook anywhere can't automaticlly create the account. With manual settings, it seems to be working. I get a Sync error in Outlook 2007, saying 1:46:53 Microsoft Exchange offline address book 1:46:53 Not downloading Offline address book files. A server (URL) could not be located. 1:46:53 0X8004010F I wish I knew what URL it is referring to... but Outlook 2007 seems to be working. Any ideas?
