1. Document existing system: Drive setup, Exchange setup, location of databases, Organisation and Site names, TCPIP settings etc. 2. Backup existing server 3. Set up new server with same name as old server (but not networked yet) 4. Install Exchange, Service Packs and Hotfixes 5. Restore Database 6. Run ISINTEG -PATCH 7. Make sure all Exchange services are running esp SA, Dir Services, Info Store and MTA 8. Turn off old server 9. Install new server. Recheck everything.
If the 5.5 server is not a PDC then you will need a copy of PDC for setting up your new Exchange server (Depends on whether its an NT4 Domain or 2K Domain, a backup and restore of server of the C: or SystemState onto a new server is all thats required).

Many thanks for the reply, so I need all the NT4 settings on the new server to be the same as the old, but what about the Exchange55 settings ? (the ones under 'connections'), will they simply get backup and restore to new server or they need to be manually edited ?
Thanks again

If you've got an IMS that will need installing again.
