Hi, The error message below has been well documented when refering to the netbios name of a live server. However in my case the server no longer exists (I understand it was once an Exchange 5.5 server in our organisation).I have investigated AD using ADSI edit and the only server listed is our current 2003 server nor can I find any reference within the smtp virtual server or our external smart host. Can anyone advise as to where I should be looking? Thanks in advance. "Message delivery to the host 'xxx.xx.xx.xxx' failed while delivering to the remote domain <netbios-name-of-non-existent-server> for the following reason: The semaphore timeout period has expired."

Hi, Have a look which bridge-head server is defined and check if all Exchange things such as the GAL etc are set to the new server.

Hi, Thanks for your prompt response. The organisation is only a single site and no bridgehead server has been configured. ADSIedit>Configuration>Sites>Default-First-Site-Name>Sites>inter-Site-Transports>SMTP>Properties>Attribute "bridgeheadServerListBL" value = not set. I have drilled down through Exchange System Manager and cannot find any reference to this "ghost" server only the current Windows 2003 Exchange server. Kind regards,

Hi, Have you tried running the Exbpa ? This may find the cause of this issue.

Hi, Regretably no such luck Best Practises Analyser did not give any pointers.I shall be migrating AD onto new hardware running Server 2008 in the next week or so and retiring existing hardware (DC's). Perhaps the issue will be resolved then. "Hope Springs Eternal"
