I am recieving this error when I try to mount a brand new store in ESM with Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2:
---------------------------
Exchange System Manager
---------------------------
An internal processing error has occurred. Try restarting the Exchange System Manager or the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or both.
Examine the Application Log for events related to this error. The description fields of these events will contain specific error codes and may contain
links to Microsoft Knowledgebase articles on troubleshooting this problem.

ID no: c1041724

Exchange System Manager

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

A little background is that the server was originally a domain controller.  To remove this role from an Exchange server you have to uninstall Exchange, demote the server, then reinstall and things should be good.  I had to reinstall the OS in the the middle of that process, but I did verify all of the Exchange information was in AD with a forestprep and domainprep prior to the Exchange re-install.

All functions of Exchange except for this (and maybe what I have not ran across so far? haha) are working fine and have been for several months.

I've read that there's a msexchcreatestore permission object that I can change permissions on to get this to work.  Can anyone clarify or point me in the direction for that?

If any more information is needed I will be more than happy to provide.

Thanks,

-Tony

Maybe you need to wait for AD to finish replication of creation of new store before you can mount it straight away.

Wow loads of stuff already played around before troubleshooting. So, what we want to know - what are those events appearing in application logs (at the time you mount the stores - do not consider events 9175, 8197 - those are generic)

Can you give me example of the error messages in the Application logs?

As for permissions, the following objects need full control (use Security tab in Exchange Manager or use ADSIEdit in the Configuration partition of AD):
servername$ = Full Control
Exchange Services = Full Control
Exchange Domain Servers = Read

Have...tried to do this Thursday and it's had all week to replicate.  A-Ok in that regard from what I can tell.

I have not heard of a Event Registration mailbox. I have heard of SystemMailbox, a SMTP mailbox and a System attendant mailbox but not the Event one.

BTW, do you have the Microsoft Exchange Event service running (you may not require this in a pure Ex 2000/2003 setup)? Try disabling that service.

No go for either.  All systemmailboxes are accounted for.

Service does not start.  Single server, single site, single domain/forest.

Thanks for the help guys, I really do appreciate you taking the time to post!

Hey, do me a favour - please do tell me is the system mailbox is under MESO container in ADUC ???

Also, are you aware of ADSIEdit.msc ??? If you are aware please follow KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279220 and go upto step 5 and locate System Mailbox, its more of an eq. and check if the object is disabled.

CN=SystemMailbox{1A5E0095-2AA3-4579-AB26-872B74AA19F0},CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=company,DC=com

ENSURE the System Mailbox is located under MESO container as disabled.

Is MESO supposed to be under the ForeignSecurityPrincipals container?  That's kind of puzzling to me.  It seems to me that it should be at the root of the domain and not stuffed under FSP.

All of my system mailboxes (nine overall) are disabled.  I do not have one with a GUID of 1A5E0095-etc  if that matters.

And I'm not sure how the article you listed applies to adsiedit.

NIETHER HAVE YOU CHECKED STEPS 1-5. THIS WOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THE LOCATION OF THE ACTUAL SYSTEM MAILBOX AND ITS STATE (ENABLED / DISABLED)

CN=SystemMailbox{1A5E0095-2AA3-4579-AB26-872B74AA19F0},CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=company,DC=com

THIS IS AN EXAMPLE.

ENSURE the System Mailbox is located under MESO container as disabled.

HOPE IM CLEAR NOW.

This is what is says from the ldp utility:

CN=SystemMailbox{1A5E0095-2AA3-4579-AB26-872B74AA19F0},CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=company,DC=com

Yes, all of the system mailboxes are disabled.

I asked if it was supposed to be at the root of the domain or stuck underneath ForeignSecurityPrincipals.  It doesn't seem right that it's in FSP.

HOPE IM CLEAR NOW.

Seems the account your using doesnt have necessary rights - is it a domain / enterprise admins rights ? I am concerned about the attribute homemdbbl. Mean while let me consult few guys at MS to check if there are any other alternatives possible.

Yes sir, I am authenticated with a domain admin/enterprise admin account.  It is also an Exchange Full Administrator account.

Do I need to get any more information from the LDP utility for you to look at?

Yea i did get some of the response (sorry for the late response)

1) Run forestprep - domainprep.
2) Delete original store and try creating a new store.
3) Re-install Exchange with latest SPs.

However, none of the above were solutions (looked pure work arounds)

Jeeeez i completely missed the lines where you mentioned.

Is MESO supposed to be under the ForeignSecurityPrincipals container?  That's kind of puzzling to me.  It seems to me that it should be at the root of the domain and not stuffed under FSP.

Please move the MESO container back to the original location - root of the domain.
I was discussing this with my friend at MS, and infact this was one of the solutions for such issues.

This did it.  Replicated and waited for a few minutes and now I can create and mount new databases.

Puzzling as to why it ended up there instead of under the root of the domain.  Could it have happened during my reinstallation?

Thank you!

Wonderful.

Nopes MESO wont move any where since Exchange wont touch it ever. Its an ADUC OU so - get hold of some one who was playing around within ADUC.

Well, what ever be the scene - issue stands resolved.
