Error 0x8004050a occured while rendering message 0001-0000000d7d1c for download for user phess@docfinity.com
The past 2 nights this error message has been showing up in my event viewer on the exchange server many many times for many different users. When I come in in the morning email is not working and I must re-boot the server. All users are on Internet POP3/SMTP email right now, only 2 users are using Exchange in Outlook. I checked the MS KB on this and the article said this can happen when both exchange and internet email are installed on the same profile in outlook. I do not have any setups like that. The only changes I have made to server were install and uninstall ISA server and the install of symantec antivirus/filter for exchange. These programs were installed late last week and email has been working fine up until the last 2 days. I really appreciate any help on this, email was down the past 2 mornings when I came in. Thank you very much. Phil

I get this same error and also have had little luck removing it. I'm in a better place than you though, at least my Exchange server doesn't shut down.
The KB that Doc is referring to is: XCCC: POP3SRV Event ID 1023 with Multiple Services in Profile and does not resolve the issue for me either.
I receive an error in the Application Log for only two or three people in my organization. Even then, it's not consistent (sometimes they can collect mail without issue). I'm running maybe 50 Exchange clients and 175 POP clients. In all cases, the 2 or 3 people that experience this issue are POP clients.
I recently received a call from one of these end users. They said they got a message along the lines of, "Some messages could not be retrieved from the server..." (he couldn't remember the exact error message). I'm not sure if these two items are related, but wanted to throw it out there.

Thanks for the reply. I did not get the error messages at all over the weekend, but yesterday my symantec antivirus/filter for exchange stopped working and the errors came back. This was just a trial of symantec and they said it had not been tested against exchange SP3 so I removed it. Today the errors were back and lasted about 4 minutes but exchange pop3 didnt stop working and I did not have to reboot. I am going to continue to look for a source of this error. Thanks again.
