Im planning to upgrade our ex07 sp1 environment (1 edge, 1 hub/cas and 1 mb) Im assuming upgrading from sp1 direct to sp3 will be ok, however i cant find any definative info about this, all the doco i have found seems to suggest upgrading from sp2 to sp3. Has anyone actually upgraded from sp1 to sp3, i know i need to upgrade windows installer, but other than that the sp3 install should be quite straight forward. i guess its not a huge issue if i have to upgrade to sp2 first, but i rather avoid any extra steps if not needed

i tried to install Sp3 and received the below error, cant find too much info on it, so i was wondering if anyone else had seen something like this before? Organization Preparation Failed Error: The well-known object entry with GUID 73000302-5915-4dce-a330-91dd24f58231 on the otherWellKnownObjects attribute on the container object CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM,DC=AU refers to a non-USG CN=Exchange Public Folder Administrators,OU=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM,DC=AU. Please either delete the well-known object entry or promote the target object to a universal security group. Im thinking the above error may have something to do with the fact that when i first upgraded from ex2003 to ex2007sp1 we had a win2003 domain, the domain has since been upgraded to a win2008 domain. maybe i have to run adprep again?

I couldnt find much info on this but i did manaully delete the Public Folders Admin group, now im getting a slightly different msg The well-known object entry B:32:020300731559CE4DA33091DD24F58231:CN=Exchan ge Public Folder Administrators\0ADEL:d468fe6e-cdc0-46cd-9612-da11918280e4,CN=De leted Objects,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM,DC=AU of the otherWellKnownObjects attribute on container object CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM,DC=AU points to an invalid DN or a deleted object. Please remove the entry and rerun the task. Which i guess does make sense, but i cant seam to remove the entry in the schema, with asdiedit or ldp. i did find a white paper that suggested deleting the referenced entry with ldp.exe, but when i tried to do that i get the following error. ldap_modify_s(ld, 'CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM,DC=AU',[0] attrs); Error: Modify: Unwilling To Perform. <53> Server error: 00000057: LdapErr: DSID-0C090B73, comment: Error in attribute conversion operation, data 0, v1772 Error 0x57 The parameter is incorrect. Anyone got any suggestions

BTW ive fixed this, just thoght id post my soution incase anyone else has this issue. i actually had to delete the Exchange Public Folders Admin Group and restore it again with Adrestore... this allowed to install SP3, which BTW after the installation the Exchange Transport service and Mail Store Service wouldnt start... so i also install the Roll up pack 1, this fixed the 2nd issue. So all is well i can now focus on ex2010 migration

SP1 to SP3 is supported and works fine. I did a huge upgrade of my enterprise (30+ servers) in August or September of this past year. Went flawlessly. Took a long time, but went fine. I have a lot of SCC / SCR stuff running too. I was sweating it big time, but it was really all for naught. Make sure you run the BPA on each system a few days prior just to make sure there is no issues lingering. I found a couple of mine had the dreaded "exchange installation did not complete successfully" error, and I had to remedy that before proceeding with the upgrade to sp3. As you know, this is really not an "upgrade", it is a re-installation.
