Although I am certain these questions have been asked before, I cannot seem to find the right answer.
Here goes...
We have  (1) Windows 2000 DC, (1) Windows 2003 DC, and exchange 5.5 on a W2K SP4 member server.  We have already purchased
new hardware for the exch 2003, specs as follows:
Dual P4 3.0GB procs, 2GB mem, 6 @ 146GB 15000RPM SCSI hot-swap HDDs.
Questions:
1.  Given the mailbox count is not likely to exceed 200 within the next two years and this server will be dedicated to just exchange server 2003, what would be the best HDD configuration?
I currently have the configuration as follows:
disks 0-4 are on a raid 5 and 6 is a hot spare, leaving about 584 usable space...
c:\ (system and boot) - 40GB
d:\ (pagefile) - 8GB
e:\ (Exchange and AV binaries) - 40GB
f:\ (Transaction logs for SG1) - 25GB
g:\ (Transation logs for SG2) - 25GB
h:\ (DB files for 1st SG) - 150GB
i:\ (DB files for 2nd SG) - 150GB

I was going to leave the remaining space for additional
Any thoughts or suggestions???
Lastly, has anyone migrated from 5.5 to 2003 with a similar environment?  Lessons learned?  Suggestions?
Thanks!

God no.
Scrap the whole RAID5 idea. Implement three RAID1 Arrays. Using you drive lettering do the following:
C, D, and E on RAID1 Pair 1
F and I on RAID1 Pair 2
G and H on RAID1 Pair 3

F and G only need to be about 10GB each so you don't need to shrink the stores drive by much.

Make sure you keep a partition with enough space on it (on RAID1 Pair 1 is probably best for you) to do an offline defrag. You need 110% of the space of the largest database to do this. It will prevent pain later on.

Mark - thanks for the reply.  Not arguing, but what is the significant draw back to using RAID 5 over RAID 1?  I am not opposed to either or specifically for one, but just interested.

Thanks!
