Just a quick question hopefully. What is the best way to backup Exchange 2000 Enterprise running on a Windows 2000 Server, I have heard that the basic NT ackup on 2000 doesn't backup Exchange 2000 Enterprise, is this true?? Also can anyone recommend any after market backup software if the above is true. Regards Oliver

Nope, not true. Microsoft's built in backup works just fine. You can even create a scheduled job and have it backup your server every night. Only thing it can't do is a scheduled job can't access a mapped drive. I think the reason most companies use other solutions is simply for better flexibility. Okay, yeah, Microsoft backup backed up your Exchange server. Now suppose Joe in accounting calls you and he says, yikes! He accidently deleted some of his messages and really really really needs them back! With Microsoft's backup, your only choice is to do a whooooole bunch of work including restoring the entire Exchange server to another computer then some more hoop jumping, backflips and so forth just so you can open Joe's mailbox and get his messages. So it's something of a long and involved process. Enough of a pain in the backside that we would usually tell people "too bad, so sad" unless there was a chance at a big financial loss to the company by not getting back those messages. (In other words, we've never had to do it. ) quote:
