Hi,
I had a W2k domain controller (fqdn: mailserver.vra.com) which also run my single exchange 2000 organisation. Because I wanted to transition to E2007, I added a Win 2003 x64 R2 machine (fqdn: vra-ad.vra.com) as an additional dc in my existing W2K forest and then transferred all five FSMO roles to from the W2K dc (mailserver.vra.com) to the W2003 dc (vra-ad.vra.com). I have successfuly installed E2007 on a W2003 member server from where I can see all the mailboxes on my legacy exchange server. I am however, unable to move mailboxes from the legacy box to the new box. I get this error message;
Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.

Do I really have to upgrade my W2K dc which also runs E2000 to W2003?

Hi Guys,
Thankfully I discovered that my legacy Exchange 2000 server which is a DC was still a GC server. After removing the GC role from the W2K DC and waiting for 5 minutes for the change to replicate I was now able to move mailboxes.

I had the same problem, but thanks to your note I was able to successfully complete the move.

Here is a quick overview of my setup:

2 - Windows 2000 DC's (were both GC's)
2 - Windows 2003 DC's (both GC's, and one has all FSMO roles)
1 - Exchange 2000 SP3
4 - Exchange 2007

Move mailbox failed with the following error:

Domain Controller 'server1.mydomain.com' Operating System version is 5.0 (2195) Service Pack 4. The minimum version required is 5.2 (3790) Service Pack 1.

I removed the GC from the 2000 DC's and the move was successful. Thanks again for sharing, and hopefully this will help someone else.

Also, during the installation I had to use the command line "setup /domaincontroller:w2k3dc1.mydomain.com" arguements to successfully install Exchange 2007 becuase the graphical install was always trying to talk to the 2000 GC and would fail. My guess is that this could have been avoided by removing the GC setting from the 2000 DC's. Not sure since it was easy enough to use the command line, but this may help someone else who is having this problem while installing Exchange 2007.
