Hi there,

I have an Windows Server 2003 SP1 running Exchange 2003 SP2, and I am trying to use the Direct push using Activesync
with a Mobile Smartphone.

I've followed the Windows mobile setup upon exchange server and all mobile config's have been setup and enabled. Our Outlook OWA works Internally and Externally. We've set up the rules upon the firewall with the relevant ports enabled. The logs upon the firewall are ok also showing the connection through.

We tried connecting the Mobile device using an External IP address we have setup upon of Mail server.

Upon the Handset itself I get the following error

Your Microsoft Exchange server does not have permission to synchronise with your current settings. Contact you exchange administrator

Support Code 0x85010004

I then found upon the Microsoft site Article 919864 and promptly contact Microsoft product support for the fix pack
after we applied the Microsoft fix pack 919864. Within the Exchange server event viewer the application log informs us of the following code Event 1503, Source MSExchangeOMA, 403 Forbidden.(more detail below)

Any ideas what I should do next ????

Any help greatly appreciated

I just had the same error on a test machine.  I resolved it by following Resolution Method 2 of MS KB Article 817379. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817379/ Good luck!

Andy, I've had a look and adjusted within ESM in accordance to your instructions. One point of note we don't have
a front and back end server, its all on one. Could this have an affect?

Are you using SSL?  Or FBA?  If your forcing SSL  or using FBS you will HAVE to use 817379.

Do you have the root cert installed on the device?  Unless you have a third party Cert(versign), it must be.

If your not using SSL.  Do you have integrated enabled on the exchange folder in IIS?  It must be.

On the Micorsoft-server active-sync folder.  It should just be basic.

Peace:)

I have finally managed to get the Server to work but not using SSL.

Just need to get the .doc and .xls attachments to open on the handset now.

I've tested the remote wipe from the web console, worked well !!!!

So to use SSL I should use the 817379 article are there any other points of refernce or advice anyone can give?

Thanks A lot , this forum has been a really good source information.

If your requiring SSL then 817379 will HAVE to be used.

Ensure the root cert is installed on the device.

If the CA is installed on the exchange server the easiest way to install the cert on the device is to go to
http://servername/certsrv

Peace:)

I'm having this same problem.  I have disabled SSL on the OMA just for troubleshooting purposes.and everything works great when loggin in to https://server/OMA/, but not with it turned on.

Now when I try active sync with the server settigns on the phone it never reches the server and I have ssl off on the active sync settings.  It will eventually time out saying  that the server is unreachable.

what am I missing here?
