I posted this in the OWA section, but realized it should probably reside here... sorry for the cross posting....

We're currently running a windows 2000 network with exchange 2003 on a seperate box dedicated for exchange. I want to put up an Exchange 2003 front-end server in my DMZ for OWA. Can I use Windows 2003 on that server even though my AD is 2000?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes deploying Exchange 2003 Servers in a Windows 2000 AD domain/forest is fully supported.

Right... but I was asking if I can use A "windows 2003" server with exchange 2003 acting as a front end. My current deployment is exchange 2003 on windows 2000 acting as a backend. My AD is 2000. So my question is whether I can seperate out a front end server and use Windows 2003/Exchange 2003?

Yes you can use an Exchange 2003 front-end with your Exchange 2000 back-ends, just be aware your users will get the OWA 2000 interface.

I think he's asking if running 2003 OS on front-end and 2000 OS on back-end is ok.

It should be fine, it's the Exchange versions being compatible/same that is more important.

You may lose some of the features if you aren't running in 2003 mode, etc. on both servers...see below for comparisons.

Yes I was a bit too quick there [Smile]

I agree you can also use that scenario...
