Hi all,

I am new to this DR so please be patient with me. We have a Exchange 2007 setup with CCR technology. Now, our higher management wants our dept to come up with a DR plan for all IT equipments, including this mail servers. I would like to seek any advice how do I setup this plan since my mailbox had been up and running for a few years?

We need some information for that? How many Exchange servers do you have? How are they split for roles? Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport? Are you using virtualisation? How many servers are in the CCR configuration? How big or small is your budget.

For a DR, you need a minimum of one mailbox server, one hub transport and one hub transport server.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for replying. At the moment, we have 2 ex2007 servers setup as mailbox role on CCR with heartbeat, 2 ex2007 server as CAS with one of them as File Share Witness. We do not have Edge transport server. Do let me know whether the information is sufficient.

Do you CAS roles have Hub Transport roles as well, you need them to transport mail between servers and clients?

Yes, my CAS server also double-up as Hub server.

Hi all,

I've stumbled upon this feature that comes with Exchange 2007 sp1: Standby Continuous Replication. Anyone have thoughts with this feature: easy to setup ? ease of use ?

We use Standby Continuous Replication to backup Exchange servers. It is pretty easy to set up, but it is very complicated to failover exchange to SCR as you have to use Powershell commands to create and mount storage groups and stores and change mailboxes to point to the SCR versions. CCR is much better as its all automated. Exchange 2010 is even better for DR facilities.

HI,

We have a CCR inplaced but our CIO expects more than that. So, we were thinking on building SCR and host it on the remote location. I read the technet but it did not mention how the mails be routed to the SCR server.

CCR does you no good if you have a requirement to have Exchange at a remote location.

You can do SCR, which is easy to set up, but depending on the size of your environment, may be difficult (well, at least time consuming) to actually ACTIVATE should you need to.
