Hi,

I am developing a solution similar to Forefront Security for MS Exchange 2007. The product will include transport agents for scan on Hub and Edge Transport. Real time and Background scan will be available on Mailbox servers using VSAPI based scan.

My question is - What should be considered for the product to function on CCR type mailbox cluster environment.
I understand that the product would need be installed on all active and passive nodes in the cluster. Apart from that would there be any additional handling required to support the product on clustered environment.

Please let me know if the question is not clear. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
Amit

I would have two opinions here.

Firstly. Exchange 2007? That's the older version. Why would you want to spend your money on a version that was never the greatest seller. If you do research you will see the adoption rate of 2007 and further, how many people are still on 2003 and are jumping to 2010. Anyone on 2003 will need to go to 2010. 2007 is s a bit of a lost release in many ways.

Secondly. a/v on the mailbox server? That's not the solution-du-jour. Sales are bigger if you develop for the HT/Edge and have something else for the client. I don't know of one a/v product that hasn't caused a catastrophe on an Exchange server.

Beyond that developing for CCR means that yes, as you say, you have to develop a cluster aware application. That's a lot more development effort and, trust me, a support nightmare.

Does your business analyst agree with you, or me on this?
