Hi namo.

You do need a global catalog domain controller. It can be either 2003 or 2008 DC.

Please explain what you are trying to do and also describe your environment.

By testing I am assume you mean that you ran the Best Practice Analyzer (BPA) and this came up with the error. It could just be that you do have a global catalog DC, but the account you ran the BPA does not have sufficient privlieges and therefore is giving you the wrong information.

Please provide some more information and I will try my best to help.

Kind Regards.
Bilal.

hi mate,

It should work, there is no reason to stop the installation.
Can you run exbpa tool and check the recommendation. and even the netdiag and dcdiag

Did I read correctly? You are planning to install Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 R2

If so, hold tight because that scenario is not supported and will fail. The Exchange team are working on an update that will allow you to install Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 R2 but that will not be for a little while longer.

At the moment if you wish to install Exchange 2007 you will need a 2008 Standard (non-R2) x64 or Windows 2003 x64 platform upon which to install Exchange.

Then I would recommend a minimum of Windows 2003 SP1 server as DC and GC on seperate server. This can be 32bit if you wish.

You will need a 32bit copy of Exchange to run the schema and AD updates.

You must use a 64bit version of Exchange 2007 for production use

Alternatively wait until Microsoft release an update for R2.

See: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2009/11/04/453026.aspx

Or even better, if time allows, wait until Exchange 2010 release which is just round the corner and runs on R2.

non-R2 is fine for Exchange 2007, 2008 DC is fine as well.

If the 2008 DC is 64bit then you won't need any 32bit media, you can run the setup switches from the 64bit install media.

If you only have 32bit DC's then you will need the 32bit media (download for free on MS website).

Hi namo.

I have just installed ex2007 at work and going through the configuration. If everything was setup correctly exchange would have setup the owa in IIS. Running the best pactice anlyzer will tell you the address if you are using self signed certificates. It normally something like https://<servername>/owa.

I want something like https://webmail.domain.com/owa. I will be setting up exchange with third party certificates. Maybe something for you to look in to.

Regards.
Bilal.
