Just installed Exchange 2007 on a Windows 2003 x64 system and I get the following error from the microsoft exchange transport service. It starts and then about 20 seconds later stops. There is nothing corupt in the database as I mounted a new database and still continue to get the same issue. Is is the most frustrating product I have run across in a while, the documentation absolutely sucks and is incomplete, and troubleshooting is impossible, so I'm turning to you guys.. HELP!!

Transport Mail Database: An operation has encountered a fatal error. The database may be corrupted. The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is shutting down. Manual database recovery or repair may be required. Exception details: Microsoft.Exchange.Isam.IsamObjectNotFoundException: No such table or object (-1305)

at Microsoft.Exchange.Isam.Interop.MJetOpenTable(MJET_SESID sesid, MJET_DBID dbid, String name, Byte[] parameters, MJET_GRBIT grbit)
at Microsoft.Exchange.Isam.Interop.MJetOpenTable(MJET_SESID sesid, MJET_DBID dbid, String name).
I am really not sure what is the exact problem but for me the temporary workaround is deleting the mail.que, temp file, log file, in the que folder of transport role. But i am getting this issue every 2 day. Please help me if anyone of you came accross of such issue !!

The database the error message is referring to is NOT the information store database (mailbox database). Transport service also has its own database for smtp mail flow and it holds the messages in the queue. This queue database is called mail.que and is located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\data\Queue folder. Delete all contents of that folder and restart the transport service.

I tried by deleting the transport database and after that the transport service also starts well but i would like to know why my transport database is getting corrupted every alternate day. What care & troubleshooting do i need to take regarding this.

Do you have any file level antivirus installed on the server? If so, have you configured it properly to exclude ALL exchange related folders and files?

One more issue i faced after that was my database was unable to mount. I got the error (
Microsoft Exchange Error
--------------------------------------------------------
Failed to mount database 'IT-2'.

IT-2

Error:
Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database: MDIEXCHANGE\Third Storage group\IT-2; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-515). I tried repairing the database with Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting assistant. but still not unable to mount the database. I am not sure if any transaction file is missing or corrupted. Can any please help me in resolving this issue.

Can you provide me with an answer to my previous question regarding antivirus please?

Open exchange management shell. change the directory to the path where this particular database is located and type the following command to check the header on the database:

ESEUTIL /MH "DatabaseName.edb". Post the output here please.

After that, change to the location where the transaction log files for this storage group are located. Type the following command to check if the transaction log files are not corrupt:

ESEUTIL /ML E0x (where x represents the series for the transaction logs). Post the output here as well.

The .edb & transaction logs folder was excluded from scanning by Antivirus. But the transport database was'nt excluded by the file level scanning. Not sure tht this may be the cause of corruption. But i need to overcome such type of issues in future & mount\recover the existing corrupted data.

After running the command(ESEUTIL /ML E00 ) the output are as follows:

WOW!! Looks like you tried to repair the database a number of times (4 to be exact)!! When and why did you run ESEUTIL /P? After running a hard repair, you have to run an offline defragmentation of the database and then an integrity check (ISINTEG) as well!!! There is a very high chance that this database is unusable because those 2 steps were never ran since the last repair was attempted in August 29th.

In addition it shows that your database is in a clean shutdown state, meaning it does not require any log files to mount:

You can try this but really dont think it'll work!! Cut all the log files out of their existing folder and move them to another location (DO NOT DELETE THEM YET!!!!). Also move the E00.CHK and any RES logs out of their location then try mounting the database and see!!!

I think you should be more concerned about getting a restore of the database. Having a repair count of 4 makes this database unstable and not suitable for production!! I strongly recommend you restore your database from an online backup.

Where was the original path and what is the new path? How come the paths were changed?
