We migrated our exchange server from 2003 to 2010 .Everything seemed to fine .Yesterday our old 2003 exchange server went down and outbound emails stopped working .As soon as the got that server up the outbound email startted flowing .we used barracuda Anti spam i check all the settings they are fine .What i see that our old email server there is an SMTP connector still pointing at the baracudda .I checked all the settings on CAH server and all the settings seem to be fine .I send out an email to an external contact and saw the followng mail flow

Exchange Server 2003 uses Routing Groups to determine the proper way to route messages while Exchange Server 2010 uses Active Directory sites for routing. These are not compatible with each other so a legacy Routing Group Connector will be created within Exchange Server 2010. This legacy connector connects Exchange Server 2010 with Exchange Server 2003 so messages can be sent between the two Exchange versions.

During setup of the first Hub Transport Server an Exchange 2003 Server needs to be selected, did you select it?

On the default receive connector, did you check the anonumous option to receive email?

Also check your smtp connector setting on exchange server 2003..

Thanks Brother for the reply .I inherited this mess dont know about the connector on exchnage 2003 .I checked the cooneted on the exchange 2003 its normal .One thing i noticed on the exchange 2010 logs .It still thinks our old domain controller is acctive and its looking for it .I think everytime we send outbound emails its hits the old exchnage 2003 then exchnge 2010 and then it goes outside .is there a way we can chat that would be great ful .

THANKS

During your upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 you will move outbound Internet mail flow from Exchange 2003 to 2010. If you are not using an Edge Transport server, then you must create at least one Send connector configured with the appropriate address space

You can use the New Send Connector wizard in the Exchange Management Console (Under Organistaion Configuration-->Hub Transport-->Send Connectors)to perform this procedure.

select how to send e-mail with the Send connector.Either through DNS or forward through smart host.

I do not have any means where we can chat... Sorry

Make use of Exchange Deploymenet assistant as it gives you step by step guide on each of the server roles

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee681665.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/hi-in/exdeploy2010/default(en-us).aspx

I beleive you need to check on HUB transport settings as this role is only responsible for all your inbbound / Outbound mail flow.
No other role is responsible
Also check your Exchange 2003 Routing group connector.Check the participating members.Do you find your exchange 2010 servers listed on this Routing group connector.

Keep us posted with your findings

rahulrao9 thanks for the help my old exchnage server has both Exchange administrative group and first administrative group .In Exchnage administratrative group i have all the exchnage 2010 servers listed and under first adminsitrative group i have the exchange server 2003 listed .Plus i chhecked the message tracker tool on exchange server 2010 with the followong message

Transferred
1/12/2012 8:53 AM hbhcah01.hamdomain.dubai
The message was transferred from hbhcah01.hamdomain.dubai to server Mail.HAMDOMAIN.DUBAI, which has an older version of the email system. This is the farthest that the message can be tracked.

hbhcah01 i my 2010 and mail.hamdomain.dubai is my old 2003

Create an A Record named legacy.hamdomain.dubai and point it to exchange 2003.

Configure the existing A Record to point to the Exchange2010.

Modify the same changes in the External DNS also.
