Please help me with repositioning my MS Exhange 5.5 Mail server in Active Directory Corporate Network.
At the moment the Exhange server is located on the same member server with DNS server, and this machine is on PUBLIC ADDRESS and NOT behind the firewall!!!
DNS should stay alone on this machine with public address, but Exchange should be set up on different machine behind a firewall. All clients access Mail Server through LAN and interior DNS. The problem is that this is a live system and migration to same server version behind a firewall should go without stopping mail service.
You understand that this is the major issue. I have been at this system engineer position for 10 days, and our investors will not allow fonds for DMZ or new version software for some time, so please help me with any suggestions.
My idea is to first backup and restore System State from current machine to new one. Then to backup and restore Information Store and Directory Service on new machine.
Then change MX record on all DNS and WINS servers in AD.
There are also some mail clients that have Mail Server IP address in their mail accounts , instead of NAME, so they will be the problem for automation.
I am not sure if they could change account info through group policy, or should a firewall redirect them to a new Mail Server Address.
Thank you for any suggestions....
