Hi all. I upgraded to Excxhange 2003 Enterprise this past weekend and have enabled Exchange Active Sync for my Pocket PC wireless users. Is there a way to get it to sync the Global Address List? Thanks!

The GAL isnt really syncable until the new exchange 2003 sp2 comes out, for now you would have to basically have them do a lookup via the OMA website or something to get GAL info. It was the BIG limitation that was keeping exchange server activesync from wide adoption.

OK. Now that I have SP2 installed, I still don't see my Global Address List synced on my PocketPC devices. Anyone know how to get this setup or sync? Thanks a bunch!!

ORIGINAL: abdulzis You still cant sync GAL. You can only access it from device Activesync. So ... what does that mean? 1. The GAL doesn't sync via Exchange Active Sync. 2. The GAL only syncs from a local connecton using Active Sync. Anyone have any info on how to get the GAL on a PocketPC device since Microsoft says you can w/ SP2? Thanks!

GAL can never be synched thru Local Activesync or Exchange Activesync. You can only access it. Like when you create a new email message and click on the To: box it will bring up contacts. Type a few letters and it will search local contacts and GAL contacts. You need to have the address book configured though under Actiesync--->Tools--->Options--->Address Book

Thanks Abdul. However, I don't have that option on my desktop Active Sync (3.8) or on my PocketPC. On my desktop's Active Sync, if I have it set to sync with the server, there are no configurable options for [Contacts]. (There's no "address bok" option) On the PocketPC, there are no configurable options for [Contacts] or "address book". I guess I'm missing something? Thanks for whatever help you can offer.

In 2003 devices you can't use Exchange Activesync email (Outlook Email) to look up GAL. You can only use POP3/IMAP accounts to check names against your Exchange GAL. In WM 5.0 you can access GAL from Activesync but you can never sync GAL. FYI to configure your GAL go to Start--->Messaging--->Tools--->Options--->Address Book--->Add---For Directory name you can put anything, server name put the server name, put your credentials and check checke names against this server.

Curses Microsoft! I didn't seem to see that info anywhere. I guess I need to wait for WM5 devices. Grrrr. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the link. I tried it out and I can't get it to work. Does it require the server to be Win2K3?

Martin, OWA is working fine. OMA is not. (That's another issue, too) Thanks, BC

It says "Unable to connect to email server". for the server name in the login options, should it be the FQDN of the server or does it need to be http://FQDN/Exchange? I've tried it both ways and even with the netbios name.

FQDN is ok. Could it be any problems with SSL? Are you using a "home made" certificate? Is Exchange Active Sync working as it should?

I don't have SSL on the server. I attempted it, it didn't work, so I removed it. Exchange Active Sync works, but not the AUTD feature. I started another thread about that.
