Hi, I am looking for a 3rd party application which monitor Exchange Server's SMTP inbound and outbound traffic in REALTIME. People who used Merak or Visnetic mail server know this, because they have a monitoring screen and it stays empty until a traffic occurs, and when there is a traffic , server opens connections to other smtp server, the tracking of outgoing bytes for each server, receipent address, smtp commands processed but all are appears in real time. Thanks Kagan

Another option is Quest Spotlight on Exchange. There is nothing free though. Simon.

I know what Merak and others can do, and there is nothing like that in Exchange. There is nothing like that for the Windows IIS full stop. Simon.

Hello this service or app or whatever does not stand for exchange as you know. It simply listens 25 and bring the information to the gui. it does not matter which mta is. I know one thing but I could not remember. it was a small written software. I think that all mail admins want to know what is happening on their in and outbound connections. everybody can imagine what this is if they know merak's monitoring screen. Yes exchange does not have this, no matter but we can use a 3rd party if possible. thanks Kagan

I have been working with Exchange for many years and I have never seen a need for something like this. The fact that no third party application has been created to do the same thing shows that there is no demand for it. Most email administrators have better things to do with their time than watch a real time display. Logs and message tracking provide the information I need to go on, along with the NDRs that are generated. The closest you could get is a sniffer type application. If there are third party applications for SMTP traffic that work with Exchange/IIS then they are doing a good job in hiding, as I am unaware of any used by the Exchange community. Simon.

Sorry for delay to this response, Yes it is true that if you have never seen a need for this kind of application and no third party app. has been created then it seems to be really unnecessary :) Administrators will not put a chair in front of the mail server and watch that, but if you have 32.000 clients (not ISP's etc) in your company, so sometimes this kind of monitoring can take place. Also we can ask to merak that why they put this unnecessary tool. this situation brings another example , Isa Server is one of the world's most advanced UTM, but it has no realtime traffic application. But Kerio winroute firewall has. you can see incoming outgoing bytes, KBytes for individuals or total bandwidth, etc. As I am a Microsoft Mct, I always want to see these things not supplied by third parties. thanks a lot.
