Has anyone had success installing Exchange 2007 SP1?  Seems like there have been a lot of problems as evidenced in this forum.

I do not have Forefront installed on my Exchange Edge box yet either and only two mailboxes.  Active Directory was prep'd when I installed Exchange 2007.

I am running a mixed environment with another Exchange 2003 server.

What should i look out for?  And why is it not available in Windows Update?

Thanks

I have not installed it yet.  Actually I'm still in the process of moving mailboxes from the old Exchange 2003 box to Exchange 2007.  However, after reading some of the post in here I am uneasy about jumping right in and installing SP1.

I have installed Exchange 2007 SP1 on many systems without any problems.
Remember that you will ALWAYS see more problems than you do successful installations. Trying to look at forums or newsgroups to see if the service pack is ok or not is not really valid as that will only show you issues. The days of NT4 SP2 have long gone. I am recommending to everyone to install SP1 as soon as possible - you will then have a finished product.

Simon.

Good point.

Once I get everyone over to the new box I'll install SP1.

Just to echo Steve's comments, I have just finished my 45th SP1 installation (I know that it is sad that I count them) for Exchange 2007 and out of all the SP1 installs that I have done I have only encountered 2 problematic ones - most of which were down to odd configuration situations within those environments, both of which were solved with a little bit of probing the logs.

Cheers

Not sure if anyone is picking this up...I'm very concerned about unique configurations (!)...

I have a 4000 user co-existent migration happening with GroupWise/NDS to AD/Exchange 2007.  (I'm awaiting the follow-up to http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/groupwise-exchange-2007-interoperability-migration-part1.html) with interest.

Anyway, we need SP1 deployed ASAP and this happens tomorrow.  I have the Quest Migrator tool in place, sitting on a connector (Novell API via the required Ex 2003 bridgehead server) which in turn is linked to a 2007 server running both CAS and HT roles.  This sits on top of a two-node SCC cluster.

My understanding is I must SP the CAS first, followed by each passive node in turn, with failover happening between the two as necessary.  I totally agree that reading in advance can sometimes give you bad feedback as every config is different...however i'm sure i'm reading different best practice depending on what TechNet article I read.

Any suggestions on my particular setup appreciated :)

Simple rule - all mailbox servers are last. Do Edge, CAS, Transport anything like that first. The servers that hold the mailboxes are done last.

Just to clarify

Were you having success UPGRADING existing RTM versions of Exchange 2007 or doing a new install.

Thanks again

Both. I have upgraded and new installations of SP1. Both have not caused a problem. New installs are obviously easier because you haven't got to worry about settings already in Exchange.

Thanks.  Will post results tomorrow evening...  I'm sure all will be well - pity MS had to rush the RTM out whilst missing out basic fuctionality, after having spent so much tme developing.  On the other hand, my client should have researched the impact of employing untested technologies on a 4000 user migration!  Long live 'planning'.

hi guys,

so much reading on SP1
I am still debating to do it, or wait.
I guess I will do it but anyway, I don't want to download the 850mb file.
does SP1 come in a DVD format I can request a copy from Microsoft?

thanks

I am not aware of any physical media. That isn't to say it doesn't exist. DO you not have access to broadband of any kind?

The file is so large because it contains the complete installation, minus the UM languages. You can install Exchange fresh from SP1 download.

Simon.

I do have ADSL internet access but 850mb will take around 20 minutes during the day and I can't afford to slow down my entire network activities.

20 minutes? I wish I could get it to download in 20 minutes.
If it comes in that quick just remote in one morning and do it then.

Simon.
