My Exchange server crashed. I was able to use ESEUTIL and ISINTEG to recover the database for PRIV1.EDB & PRIV1.STM. However, I cannot seem to recover PUB1.EDB & PUB1.STM. I have been able to show (ESEUTIL /mh pub1.edb) that the public folder is in a clean state. However, the stream file always show "Dirty Shutdown." Any idea on how I can start from scratch with the public files to get to a clean state? I don't have anything in public and won't lose anything.
Defrag the pub1.edb, that will force the pub1.stm to "clean shutdown." Norton CE on box? Scanning M drive and \mdbdata directories? Dismount stores, stop IS, get offline backups before you proceed.
Sorry, not attentive. Just dismount Mailbox store, then remove pub1.edb, .stm, then in ESM select to mount Public Store, it will say there is none, would you like to create one? Yes.

Process 1 worked. Your second thought did not play so well. The information store service kept stopping when I messed with deleting the files.
My steps were unorthodox, but they worked. I had run ESEUTIL /p pub1.edb /spub1.stm and only the .edb file showed a clean state. (Good enough)
Next, I removed them out of the MDBDATA folder. I tried to start the public store. It failed, the Information Store service stopped. So, I copied them back, restarted the Information Store service, and remounted the Mailbox store.
Strangely, I ran ESEUTIL /mh on both of the public files and they showed - CLEAN. Therefore, I ran defrag ESEUTIL /d publ1.edb /spub1.stm and it work!
