Hi, I have worked out how to export mailboxes to PST but cannot see how to export public folders to PST. I need to back them up to PST for disaster recovery purposes. I cannot find anything about this on the net. If Google don't know, I don't know!

I am looking for a Powershell way so this can be done every night, like I do with my mailboxes.

Thanks

Following steps can be used to export Exchange public folders to an Outlook .PST file:

  1. Open MS Outlook, select File -> Import/Export -> Export to a file -> Personal Folder File.
  2. Navigate to the top level of the public folders, and click "Include Subfolders." Click Next.
  3. Select the .PST file, and click Next. Name the .PST file and set a password if required.

Above said process is although simple but will take time if you have enormous users.

In case of database corruption or large sized organization, it is good to use a third party tool. There are many third party Exchange server recovery solutions which not only help in disaster but export Public folder database file into PST files. One such tool is Stellar Phoenix Exchange server recovery software. This application effectively handles all corruption situations and export user's mailboxes into individual .pst files.

You can do export/import PF in PST or another option is InterOrg Replication tool from MS.

I think InterOrg is not supported in Exchange 2007 but you have Exchange 2003 in your target environment then you can replicate PFs.

Installing, configuring, and using the InterOrg Replication utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238573/en-us
Configuring the InterOrg Replication Tool

You can also try some third party tool. Lepide Exchange Manager is one of them
