i've been told here i need to export it to excel for that.

but i don't know how to export it, and then how to reimport them.

It doesn't works as it doesn't exports nor expands distribution groups!.
letme explain this further:

i have a large contact list in my contacts folder "peter" "john" "paul", etc, i have distribution lists "customers"(with peter and john in it), and some contacts don't even have groups.
Now i want to create a public shared contact folder for EACH distribution group, but dragging the "customers" distribution lists inside it's no use as the contact folder must contain the CONTENTS of the distribution list AND the list itself.
Selecting them by hand from the list is not an option as it would take weeks to sort out and compare this enormous distribution groups.

HOW do i expand a distribution group(just like when you press the + sign to expand it when selecting it on a new email message) to a contact list?

Import Contacts from Excel or a CSV File into Outlook
To import contacts from a CSV file or from Excel into Outlook:
  • Select File | Import and Export... from the menu in Outlook.
  • Make sure Import from another program or file is highlighted.
  • Click Next >.
  • Now make sure Comma Separated Values (Windows) is selected.
  • Click Next >.
  • Use the Browse ... button the select the desired file.
  • Typically, choose Do not import duplicate items.
  • Click Next >.
  • Select the Outlook folder you want to import the contacts to. This will usually be your Contacts folder.
  • Click Next >.
  • Click Map Custom Fields ....
  • Make sure all columns from the CSV file are mapped to the desired Outlook address book fields.
    • You can create new mappings by dragging the column title to the desired field.
    • Any previous mapping of the same column will be replaced with the new.

  • Click OK.
  • Now click Finish.

Nilehs, it doesn't works(i mean, it works, it exports, but the exported data is of no use), the problem with export contacts is that it doesn't export contact groups!.

Neko, indeed!, that's what i need to do, create contact folders(or subfolder) that contain ONLY the contacts inside the contact groups.
But i'm back to square one with your solution, as exporting doesn't exports lists or groups(which is moronic).

i still don't get how it doesn't has drag and drop back or copypaste from inside the group(even thought the list only has mails and not other data).

i can't believe there's a contact manager or sthing to manage huge address lists

I just exported a large exchange group email list to CVS and Excel with the name and email. This is how I did it.

1a) In Outlook, right click on the group and "Add to Contacts"
1b) In Outlook, expand the group email list.

2) Expand the group email list.

3) Copy all of the email names in the expanded list (I did this with AD user names)

4) Open your contact in outlook and click on the contact you just created.

5) Delete the Contact under “Name”

6) Click "Select Members"

7) Paste the username you copied

8) Outlook will ask you to clarify some names that it has an issue with.

9) When completed, Outlook will show a nice list of names and email addresses and probably say that there are “too many names to save”.

10) click “Save As” and save as a .txt file.

11) copy the items in the saved txt file, paste as text into excel and it should auto matically format (as the saved txt was saved in tab separated format.

12) from there you should be good.

13) reply back if you have more questions.
