Hi Gents,
I have been assigned to do an unusual migration.
I have access to EDB and Log file of an old 2007 Exchange box and have to migrate them to a new site�s Exchange 2010.

I am wondering, since the server and the related AD are not functioning properly (both have some connection issues) could I simply mount the EDB to a new Exchange server 2007 or 2010, export the Mailboxes needed to a PST file and import them to 2010 ? Would that mount work without AD ?

Any hits or tips highly appreciated.

You Cannot mount the database without Active Directory.

As Gulab said you cannot mount the edb file without AD working.
However I would suggest to look for tools that can help to recover the mailboxes or emails from the edb file. You can check with the support team of the below software

Without properly working of Exchange server & AD its not possible to mount .edb file over server. However, there is still a good possibility to extract mailboxes from an unmounted (old) edb file and save in pst files by running an server-independent mailbox extraction app (that exports old edb file into pst files without exchange server). Then you can import these PST files into any edition of Exchange server using PowerShell cmdlets.

Functioning Exchange is required to mount or dismount an edb file and exporting mailboxes into pst too. As exchange server is no longer available then extraction of mailboxes from offline edb file into pst file format is totally dependent on external tools. Explore an edb application that does not require Exchange server installation and does extraction of mailboxes from any kind edb file (offline, corrupt, dismounted etc) into individual pst files. (no 2gb pst size limit).

It is not possible to access mount EDB file over Exchange server without properly working of Exchange server and AD. However, there is good possibility to restore EDB mailboxes from an un-mounted Exchange EDB files and save into Outlook PST files format by using EDB to PST Recovery software. That software exports old exchange edb file into new outlook pst file (without exchange server) within in few seconds and after that you can easily import converted Outlook PST files with ExMerge utility.
I recommend you to look at InFixi Exchange EDB to PST Recovery Software.

If you need to migrate Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange 2010, when AD is not working properly then I reckon you to use Exchange Recovery Software which is designed to migrate Exchange Database to New Server while keeping the data safe and secure. And it also provide various other options to carry out the process ahead.

In order to use Export_mailbox cmdlet, users should have sufficient permissions and another limitation is that this cmdlet does not export those mailboxes which have too many corrupted items. In such cases a third party tool may help the users to perform quick as well as accurate conversion.
