I used MS Outlook 2003 to export a mailbox to .pst file. However, I encountered an error saying 'Unknown Error'. PST file was created but not complete.

Why not use the export-mailbox command against the server? You'll need a few things on the workstation though but if you set one up it'll be there for the next time you need it.
This software is very easy to use, cost effective, and employs advanced scanning method to scan the entire Exchange database file so that the maximum amount of data could be received by users. The software repairs the damaged .edb file, recovers deleted items and then gives the option to export either all or desired mailboxes into .pst files.
The above path is just an example; the location you use to save the pst should be a share with the 'Exchange Trusted Subsystem' group added with write access.
PSTFolderPath must be a full path pointing either to a directory or to a (.pst) file. If a directory is specified a PST file named after the mailbox alias will be used as the target of the export. Note that if the PST file already exists the contents of the mailbox will be merged into it.
Using Export-Mailbox cmdlet is the good option. However, there are certain requirements that must be met before running this Cmdlet. For step by step instructions on how to export mailboxes data to PST files using the Export-Mailbox cmdlet and what are the pre requirements, you may visit on the Microsoft TechNet website: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998579.aspx
Although the tool is able to export Exchange mailboxes into .pst files, there are some limitations of Export-mailbox cmdlet like it is unable to export the Dumpster's data.
There are some easy to use and graphically rich third party EDB to PST Converters in the Market. One such tool is Stellar Phoenix EDB to PST Converter that provides the option to export Mailboxes to PST files from both On-line and Offline Exchange database files. The software is compatible with all versions of MS Exchange Server. For detail information about the software, you can see the product's official website: http://www.edb-pst-converter.com/
