I was searching for info on the net and found this

forums.msexchange.org/m_180038400/tm.htm

which sounds a bit like the problem i am facing ,

how ever i have not heard from any user saying that mail to a particular domain is bouncing.

Now my question is that we dont have an external dns cofigured for our virtual server .

Does one need to have this ?

if so , everything was working fine so far :S

how ever i realised that this can be done by

Open your ˘Exchange system manager÷-> ˘Administrative groups÷->÷First Administrative group÷->÷Servers÷-˘Your Server÷->÷Protocols÷->÷SMTP÷-> Right Click ˘Default Virtual Server÷->÷Properties÷->÷Deli very÷->Press ÷Advanced÷ Button->Press ˘Configure÷ Button near the ˘Configure external DNS servers÷->

comments and suggestions are heartly welcomed.

cheers,

zllauh

Zllauh,

It looks like you are using an internal DNS server, can you try the following in a DOS box:

- ping 192.168.0.5, checks if you can reach the dns
- nslookup www.microsoft.com

If both work your server can reach your DNS so it should work.

Johan

You don't need to configure an external DNS as Exchange relies on your internal. Assuming it can connect to the internal DNS server with no issues, you should forward any requests the intneral DNS can't resolve to an external name server. This will allow Exchange to resolve MX records for domains it is sending mail to. Again though, this is assuming your internal DNS is working properly and Exchange is able to connect to it.
