Hello, I am currently researching anti-spam products for Exchange 5.5. The company is cheap but needs to placate the vocal users complaining about spam.
So far the only one I've found that they will even consider buying is Nemx Powertools for Exchange.
Anyone have any favorite, cheap anti-spam products that work well at the server level?
From what I've seen so far testing Nemx it slows down mail processing through the IMC considerably.

I've used the Trend Micro product InterScan eContent Manager for several years and find it to be effective. Trend also has a plug-in for their ScanMail (anti-virus) product. I worked with it in a lab enviornment but didn't like it as well as the InterScan product. Trend's web site is www.antivirus.com.
This is the best anti spam software and it's FREE. It works on the principal that every one working together can do a lot better job of stopping spam than a 3rd party software can. Works on the P2P idea. http://www.cloudmark.com/ Works only with Outlook. Read this review from Wired magazine. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/10.09/start.html?pg=9

Anyone using Tumbleweed Communications product?
I've tested 3 products - GFI Mail Essentials (very unimpressed with it's "features"), Nemx Powertools (even with tech support I still couldn't get it to stop clogging my IMC) and Trend's eManager plug in to ScanMail (have to install on every mailbox server).
I tried Interscan from Trend in my environment a year ago and had problems because there are IMC-connected sites in the Exchange Organization.
I'm thinking I'll have to go with a product that is a mail gateway but I haven't found one that is
1. worth the money 2. whose licensing I can understand 3. whose salespeople are responsive
Anyone using a mail gateway product for anti virus and anti spam please feel free to give some feedback. In the meantime I will be revisiting Trend's Interscan product.

Lorna,
I am using gfi's mailessentials, and could not see why you are un-impressed with it's features .... maybe you where using an old version of the product. New features where included in the new version using advanced email header checking techniques.
I tend to agree that the old version did not have any special anti-spam features, but gfi seems to have caught up with this new version as regards to anti-spam features.
If you want best anti-spam products then i recommend for Symantec Antivirus because it is working very well and all results are good of this software. You can find on Internet to get free products and they also provide free trial.
