Do you have a Blackberry Enterprise Server? Or are you using the web client via your service provider?

working with exchange 2003 and outlook 2003 client. the worksation is shut down nightly. understanding that when the outlook client is closed blackberry redirector the software client will not function. the mail should be copied or forwarded from the exchange server. my concern is only to be able to forward or copy mail at the source(exchange) to an external address.

You need to change your Blackberry Desktop Manager software to use the Internet mail option instead of the Desktop redirector. You can go to Add/Remove Programs and click on 'Change/Remove' and then 'Modify' the software.

CleverName,

Am trying to do something similar. What about sending the content of the exchange mailbox to a external e-mail like xyz@hotmail.com so the blackberry can pick it up form hotmail?

marioex,

I don't think you really need to involve an external e-mail account such as a Hotmail account. You should have an actual Blackberry address you can use via your service provider. For example, jsmith@tmo.blackberry.net would be a T-Mobile address. You could set up an external contact in Exchange (with the Blackberry address) and then set forwarding on the user account to the contact. Then, anything sent to the user would be delivered to the Blackberry.

Hope that helps,
CN

Real easy... you have to create a contact for the user... then assign the BWC (Blackberry Web Client) address to the contact. Then in AD Users & Computers you can specify that all mail to the actual user account gets forwarded to the contact you created, which then sends to the BWC account. If the Exchange box handles SMTP mail for the user, make sure you log into BWC and override the reply-to address to add the proper email address for the user. You are just going to have to be careful of the BWC account getting full.

The Desktop Redirector is only a good idea if it runs on a machine that is always on.

No problem Corey...it's always good to have a 'second opinion'. [Wink]

As for the web client, you can set 'auto-aging' on the folders so that you don't have to manually go in and clean up the web client mailbox. The only issue you may run into is if you receive a large attachment(s) and would have to go in and get rid of some older messages to free up some space. I think the typical storage for these web client addresses is 10MB.

Auto-Aging will only move files to the delete bin, but won't clear them out. You still have to login to clear out your deleted items.

Auto-aging can be set on the Deleted Items folder as well...
(definitely for Cingular and T-Mobile accounts as I've worked with people who use those service providers)

I have 8 Blackberry 7250's setup for the Web Email Client for roving sales staff accross the country. Not running Blackberry Enterprise for only 8. Each user has an Exchange email inside the main company. This Exchange email has redirects setup to send (and leave a copy in plant in Outlook)any incomming email to each users home ISP email account. An additional alias was created for each users Blackberry devices to do the same. Problem --- The users want both their company Exchange email and Blackberry email to be redirected / forwareded to their home ISP email account. I can't get into Exchange to look at the settings. Outlook client only runs rules if Outlook is open (I can't have 8 email accounts open on my desktop at once). Can I make this work?

Clarify My Previous Problem...
Send 1 Exchange Email to two external ISP emails. Both are already assigned alias. So if I email joeshmo@something.com is goes to both joeshome@home.com and joesblackberry@blackberry.com

I think if you set up contacts in AD for both addresses, you should be able to set up to forward to them. Example below.

Create a new contact for joeshome@home.com and add the SMTP address for joesblackberry@blackberry.com.
In AD settings for joeshmo@something.com, set mail to forward to the contact created above. You may also have to set the Allow Automatic Forward. This can be done through the Exchange System Manager by drilling down to Global Settings, Internet Message Formats. Right click on Default and select Properties. Select the Advanced tab and check off Allow Automatic Forward.

Hope this helps.

Follow the instructions and every thing will work just fine. You will have to empty blackberrys website page from time to time.

1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers
2. Navigate to your USERS list
3. Right-click on folder and do NEW and CONTACT
4. Put in contact info and click NEXT
5. Put check-mark by Create Exchange e-mail address
6. Click NEXT to create the new contact
7. Double-click the new Contact and bring up Properties
8. Click on E-mail Addresses tab
9. Click on NEW and choose SMTP address and put in the full external E-mail address you want to forward to
10. Uncheck Automatically update ... recipient policy and click OK
11. Now double-click the user to want to forward all e-mails from and bring up Properties
12. Click on Exchange General tab
13. Click on Delivery Options
14. Click on Forward To and Modify
15. Enter the name of the new Contact and OK
16. Hit OK to exit Properties and your done

When forwarding messages from the exchange server to the blackberry account, it appears that only internal mail is being forwarded. External mail gets sent to the inbox but not to the web client account. Has anyone seen this before. Thanks.

Prior to getting a Blackberry Ent. Server, I used a server based Outlook 2003 rule to redirect everything. This was the only way I could guarantee messages were processed by Exchange 2003 server side AV/Spam.

Sorry, I did not read this entire thread, just the first post. We used Outlook Web Access to solve this issue.

Simply on Nextel or Blackberry's side, you should be able to login their web client and configure it to pull its emails from the Outlook Web Access website that your back-end Exchange server hosts.

Thanks NewGuy for the May 18th post! This worked perfectly to forrward my Exchange mail to my Blackberry.

However I am concerned because my Blackberry manual says "forwarding corporate e-mails to the Blackberry Internet Service does not offer the advanced security features of the Blackberry Enterprise Server."

Does anyone have a comment on the severity of this risk?
