We have a few back end 2003 Exch servers and our first server is the only server that contains our Free/Busy information.  I thought it would be a good idea to add more replicas so I added another one of our servers.  I then tried to schedule a meeting with another user and it said the free/busy data was unavailable.  Do I need to wait a certain period of time after I make that change for it to fix itself?  Once I encountered the issue I reverted back to only one replica and the issue eventually went away.  It's a fairly large organization so the last thing I want to do is take down the free/busy data for a long period of time.

If I replicate the free/busy data on servers A and B and a user on C is doing a meeting request, does it randomly choose which server to get the free/busy data from?    Should I just replicate this data to ALL 4 servers?  We have approx 8,000 mailboxes.

Only having one F/B replica is a risk to the organisation. Losing the PF server on which it resides is going to be a problem for you. You should replicate the system PF overnight, probably right click and force the replication. Once they're replicated you won't have the problem you're seeing. What you did see what the mailbox server looking at their local copy of the F/B which was, understandably, empty and returned exactly that. Once it's replicated you'll be fine.

The MSExchangeTeam blog covers this with their opinion.

Thanks guys for your posts.  I waited for a scheduled downtime and added 1 replica and everything is good.  I was told afterwards by admins who have been here longer that originally all the servers were in the replica set but were removed because it wasn't syncing up fast enough for our org.  Hopefully by just adding one server I won't be introducing the same issue as before.  I suppose I could customize the replication interval or priority but I think I'll just wait and see if anyone complains.
