Get HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable When Logging Onto OWA - 3.Jul.2008 8:21:07 AM

Morning All,
I just started having this issue. I get the OWA login screen, type in my username and password click the login button and I get:
HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable
Not sure what happen, I haven't done anything to the exchange server. Would appreciate some direction/assistance on this.

Lets take a step back first. Are you able to get to the default web site on the server? How many exchange servers do you have (front-end or backend)?

Yes, I can get to the default Web Site. It's a Front End Single Exchange Server in a Exchange Organization of 2 Exchange servers.

check if FE server is able to communicate with BE servers over 80 port. As far as I have faced this problem it was the mailbox stores dismounted. All requests from OWA arrives at FE and then FE is responsible to find approriate BE server on which users mailbox resides. FE server uses GC server to find the BE server for that specific user.

Check out the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883380/en-us ....it is the best solution for "503 Service Unavailable" errors....

Ok went through these and some others. I am getting
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event ID: 9542
Description:
Initialization of external interface OLEDB failed; Error ecServerOOM.
And they recommend using the HKCRScan.exe to assist and finding the error and to obtain it from Microsoft PSS. But I have read articles where Microsoft want's to charge $245 for this tool and some post stated that didn't even work in some cases. I just realized another problem now, when I go into Exchange System Manager and try to access the Public Folders I get the following:
The HTTP service used by Public Folders is not available, possible causes are that Public stores are not mounted and
the Information Store service is not running.
ID no: c1030af3
Exchange System Manager
From what I have read from different post these two items looks to be related!! I would appreciate any help that could be provided.

Hiya,
Well there could many reasons why u r receiving this error (Of course IIS related) and yes you are correct, once your IIS issue is resolved, you will be able to access your Public folders as well...
Using HKCRScan.exe tool is one of the troubleshooting step which is required to check for any registry key which is greater than 259 characters in the HKCR hive....check if you can open up a grace case to aquire the tool, as normally you could open up a grace case if you require a hotfix which is not publicly available....but though I am not sure about it.....
Check the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290105/en-us which does talk about the event which you have mentioned...
Also try rebuilding the Exchange related virtual directories by following KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883380/en-us which is one of the troubleshooting steps.....
Also follow the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/?id=823159 and try re-registering the following files
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Oledb32.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Oledb32r.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Msdaipp.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\Msado15.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\Msdaurl.dll

Ok went a registered the .dll as stated in the article below. One thing I did notice in the list is had msdaipp.dll and that is not in there with the others. Any ways still having the error.

Hi,
Did you copy over te missing file ?? anyways the file “Msdaipp.dll”, which should be residing under “c:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB” folder and if its mising, you need to copy the Dll file from Windows 2003 SP2 CD and re-register it using the regsvr32 command. Also FYI You must stop the Information Store service before you re-register the file and restart the service after you successfully register it.
PS: Did you try resetting the Virtual directories ?

I don't have a SP CD to pull the file from, but I copied another msdaipp.dll from aother Exchange Server and registered it, and still nothing. I have tried resetting the VD's as well.
