Hello, hope someone can help me out with this problem:
I have two exchange accounts which names cannot be resolved correctly only by some outlook clients. When I have a look in the global address book, these two accounts are the only ones who do not have an email alias, although this alias exits in the Active Directory. When users type these aliases in the "to" field of Outlook, the name is not resolved, or resolved with the address of an other internal mail account. Example: user "mathias hogreve" with the alias "HOG" is resolved to user "bernhard hśgl" with the alias "BEH". Mails are sent to the wrong person. How is this possible? Is there any way to "reset" outlook to clear its name cache?
Here is, what I already did: - Deleted the Global Address List and created a new one - Ran both Recipient Update Services - tried this Knowledge Base Article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315531/en-us (Newly created mailbox or distribution list is not displayed in the Global Address List)
The strange thing is that 90% of the outlook clients are able to resolve the aliases to mail addresses correctly. All clients are outlook 2003 clients. The mailserver is Exchange 2000 (single domain). It seems that the troubled outlook clients still use the old Global Address List.

"Suggest Names" function is using the outdated local cache.
To delete any unwanted suggestions from the list :
1. Create a new email message.
2. Begin typing any last name in the "To..." or "Cc..." field.
3. Select the unwanted suggestion by using the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys, and then press the DELETE key.
OPTIONAL ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONS TO DELETE THE ENTIRE LOCAL CACHE:
1. Close Outlook.
2. The cache file is located in the " C:\Documents and Settings\ username \Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook " folder
NOTE: to quickly navigate to the folder containing this cache file:
a). Copy (ctrl + c) the following: line "%userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook"
b). Click START -> RUN
c). Paste (ctrl + v) line you just copied into the "OPEN" field, and click "OK"
3. Delete all files with the extension ".nk2".
4. You can now re-open Outlook.

Thanks for your help. Still didnŠt resolve the problem. I found out, that those two exchange accounts also cannot be added as additional accounts to an exchange profile. When typing their alias I get the error message "name could not be resolved. The name is not in the address list". Access rights are set. I guess I will have to export their mails, delete the accounts and re-import the mails. When creating new accounts they appear in the Global Address list, have an alias and their is no confusion with the name resolving. Thanks anyway.

Hey Scotty! You may not have helped Thomas, but you sure helped me! I've been trying to solve this problem for months and have found nothing to fix bad addresses in what you call the "suggest names" list. Even Microsoft couldn't give me a solution. MS's only suggestion was blow away the whole nickname file. They claimed that in Outlook 2000 there was a utility to get rid of individual nicknames but not after 2000. I had tried right clicking the bad suggestions. It never even occurred to me to just hit the delete key. Thanks so much for your post!

tip: if you type a user in the "to" field and it drops down an invalid user, hit delete and it deletes this user from the local cache.
