Hi,
After reading treads I have understood that defragmenting the Server HDD that hosts the EDB files can make the databases corrupt.
My question is how to defragment the drivers correctly?
Is unmounting the databases before a defragmentation enough or how should it be done?

Regards,
Ase

You shouldn't need to defrag the drive because only the Exchange files should be on it.
However, back up the files (after dismounting the stores), defragment it and then do another offline backup. As soon as you're back in a mounted state do an online Exchange backup.

Hi,

No other experiences/ideas from others?
Unmount the store and defrag as usual is the way to go?

If you havenīt done it already (and if you have the option to) take into consideration to align the blocks on the partition where you put your Exchange DB. It can drastically improve performance. More than the defrag in many cases.

Have a look at: http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid43_gci1170078,00.html#

This pertains to Windows Server versions prior to Server 2008 which aligns correctly from the get go.
