I have an exchange setup with 2 FE (we will call them D27 and D28) and 2 BE (D29 and D31) servers. We are adding a new server to the BE (D32). All running Server 2003 and Exchange 2003.

The mailbox on D32 can send/receive emails within our network and can receive emails from outside. It can not receive emails from outside the network (I believe this is a firewall issue but this is off topic...)

From my workstation if i go to http://D32/Exchange, i am prompted to authenticate and i can successfully log in.

If i try to go from http://email.mycompany.com/exchange, i am prompted to auth but i get HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable error. If i try to connect to OWA through Exchange System Manager on either FE server i get the 503 error.

This is what our setup looks like mapped out:

Internet -> Firewall -> D28 & D27 -> Firewall -> BE Exchange servers and rest of network

Is this a firewall issue? Is there something in exchange that needs to be configured for OWA and a new BE exchange server?

FE servers communicate with BE on port 80, check the firewall between FE and BE.. also check for GC port 3268 as FE uses GC to find appropriate BE server for the user which is trying to access.
