Hi there - Have an "emergency" issue here. Several days ago, all of a sudden, our Exchange server started getting really slow. After looking into it, I noticed the CPU usage is peaking at 100%, with inetinfo using up a good chunk of it. I also note that the Badmail folder is filling up fast. Basically, within couple minutes of starting up SMTP it can grow to 500+ messages.

I quickly isolated the mail server. But, everytime I start up SMTP, the messages start coming in from nowhere into Badmail folder. I ran virus check (Symantec Corporate Edition with the latest virus def file 7/13/2005) and it didn't find anything on the machine. I checked to make sure the server is not accidentally in open relay status. It isn't.

Is there anything else I should be looking for?

If it isn't a virus, wouldn't it have to be a relay thing? Is there another option?

I am sure that mine is being used in that way as well-I delete the contents of my badmail folder once a week (it usually has about10,000 items in it at that point). I have made sure my relay is closed as well but I have evidence that it is far more "active" than it should be.

I will watch this post because I too am dealing with this type of an issue.
