Ok here is the situation
The message pending submission queue was getting incredible large, as in 50000 mails for a small company.
The customer has GFI 9, Exchange 2003 Sp2 and Windows 2003
I tried some things such as stopping GFI, to see if it was the issue, restarting the services IIS etc

I noticed that restarting IIS would allow a few mails out same with smtp

I decided to stop the exchange services, rename the queue folder and restart everything.  The mail seems to be flowing better now but I have notice under the queues about 40 connectors to spam type domains like ps2cool and eonline.biz or chatt-nett.com.... seems unusual since there should be any activity today

Any thoughts

It is likely you are seeing NDR messages.  Spammers send to random addresses, and the ones addressed to your domain get to you.  If the address is not present, your system attempts to send the NDR.  If the listed sending address does not exist, your system has no choice but to retry until it times out.
