Hello everyone,

I have been having trouble with a particular Exchange Server (sbs2003) for a few weeks now; for some reason around 11am, the server goes into a crazed slowdown mode. I first thought it was a memory issue but after some research and troubleshooting ive found it to be high disk activity which is being caused by the store.exe process (when i stop store.exe, everything goes back to normal). I ran the Exchange troubleshooting tool and it reported many disk latency issues. We have a few users who use quickbooks from the server and they say that the performance has become horrible; again it started randomly about 2 weeks ago. I looked int e Exchsrvr\mdbdata folder and there seems to be alot of log files being generated; more than ive seen on any exchange server before.

any help on this issue is appreciated

Hiya chap, when you say "logs" do you mean database transaction logs? - have you seen anything different in your mail queues?
Also have you checked your store maintenance intervals? it is unlikely to cause an issue (by default it should be set to out of hours) but that could explain it.

Also do you have an AV software installed - is it scheduled for a full scan at any point?

Cheers

A

By logs i mean eXXXXX.log

The mail queue looks normal and the maintenance interval is set to custom schedule which is all the time; i dont believe i ever adjusted that so it might be there by default.

Is there any way to clear these log files and start over with a fresh set?

Trent

and also the virus scanner that is used is symantec endpoint protection but the client has been uninstalled; the server portion does remain for other clients

If you mean that every 15-minute time block is selected, you're telling Exchange to start the maintenance routines every 15 minutes.
