Hey there,We are having some problems with our Availability Service--we can see free/busy information in Outlook 2003 and OWA, but not in Outlook 2007.However, I think the problem goes beyond just the Availability Service--I think it has to do with Autodiscovery in general. This is because: 1)  When I run "Test E-Mail Account Configuration" I get the following results:

Attempting URL https://mailserver.company.net/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml found through SCP
Autodiscover to
https://mailserver.company.net/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml starting

2) When I run the "Test-OutlookWebServices" command I get the following errors:
                      Id                       Type Message
                      --                       ---- -------

It's hard for me to pinpoint the problem when none of these go-to troubleshooting methods are returning any useful information. However, I think our problems may be due to the fact that we are using .NET internally and .ORG externally. I think this may be affecting our certificate, as well as where the autodiscover URLs point to.
Can anyone help me with this problem, and let me know the proper steps to take to configure Autodiscover when your internal and external URLs are different?
Thanks!Jessica

Yes it is. Fresh install of Exchange 2007. This is the first Exchange server we have ever had.
Thanks!

What is the internal FQDN of the CAS?What is the external OWA URL? Do you have split DNS configured?

Internal FQDN: exchangeserver.ourdomain.net
External OWA URL: https://exchangexserver.ourdomain.org:1111/owa

Notice that, in the OWA URL, there is an extra 'x.' Could this be causing problems? We are doing this because the end-users are used to typing exchangeserver.ourdomain.net to access their email from outside the domain, and we don't want them to have to memorize a new URL.

I am unsure if we have split DNS configured?

By split DNS I meant if https://exchangexserver.ourdomain.org (external URL) can be accessed inside the network?

No, https://exchangexserver.ourdomain.org cannot be accessed from inside the network. Everything .org is only accessible outside the network. Everything .net is only accessible inside the network.

Couple of things...

OWA on another port - that isn't going to work for long. OWA is designed to work on port 443 and 80 only. Furthermore you will be unable to use autodiscover and Outlook Anywhere on an alternative port.

Do you have both variants of your domain name in your SSL certificate? If you do then I would setup a split DNS system so that the public name resolves internally.
Have you set specific external and internal autodiscover URLs?

Simon.

Hey Simon - This is not the first time you've helped me, and I just want to say I appreciate it immensely.

OWA was on a different port because my boss was worried there would be an extra security risk if it was on one of the default ports. I changed it back to 443 and now when I run "Test E-Mail Account Configuration" I get the following results:

Protocol: Exchange RPC
Server: exchangeserver.ourdomain.net
Availability Service URL: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/
OOF URL: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/
OAB URL: http://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/OAB/xxxxx......
Unified Message Service URL: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/UnifiedMessaging/Service.asmx
Auth Package: Unspecified

I just created a new certificate yesterday using Windows CA and overwrote the self-signed certificate. I then imported the certificate to the Outlook 2007 client computer. However, I am still not able to see Free/Busy information. The Subject Name of the certificate is exchangeserver.ourdomain.ORG and the Subject Alternate Names are:

exchangeserver.ourdomain.org
exchangeserver.ourdomain.net
autodiscover.ourdomain.org
autodiscover.ourdomain.net
exchangeserver

I created a DNS host record for autodiscover.ourdomain.net which points to the Exchange server.

I know I'm probably just missing an obvious piece of this puzzle. All I want is my Free/Busy info! Do you think the split-DNS could be the answer to my problems?

Thank you so much!
Jess

On the port thing - you don't get security from obscurity. All you do is piss off users.

Any reason you are using the Windows CA and not a SAN certificate from a commercial provider? Are you using UM?

Does Outlook prompt for certificates when it starts?

Simon.

I'm using the Windows CA right now because I *thought* it would be faster than getting my boss to OK a commercial provider. Ultimately we want to use a comm. provider, but I just need to get this working ASAP--not doing myself any favors, am I?

Outlook does not prompt for certificates when it starts.

UM appears in IIS, but we do not have the UM role installed--this is the only Exchange server we have.

Free/Busy is still not working, but everything else appears to be fine.

Here's the results of get-webservicesvirtualdirectory:

InternalNLBBypassUrl: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/

Also, when I test OutlookWebService, I get the following:

Id: 1013
Type: Error
Message: When contacting https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/ received the error The request failed with HTTP status 405: Method Not Allowed.

Id: 1016
Type: Error
Message: [EXCH]-Error when contacting the AS service at https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/. The elapsed time was 15 milliseconds.

When comparing these results to the stats I listed in my last post, can you see anything that points to what the problem could be?

This problem has been resolved!

Apparently, after everything else I had done, my InternalURL and ExternalURL were incorrect. I changed them to:

InternalUrl: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.net/ews/exchange.asmx
ExternalUrl: https://exchangeserver.ourdomain.org/ews/exchange.asmx

And everything began working just perfectly!

Thank you, everyone, for all of your help. I really appreciate it.
