Hi,

I have a little problem(i think) on my exchange server.
A few months ago, i installed exchange server 2k with sp3 on my w2k server domain controller. When i was configuring exchange, i accidently dismount the private folder store in the exchange system manager.
I did not good what to do, and rebooted the server, but the private folder still was gone in the system manager after reboot.
So, i created a new private information store, and deleted/recreated all the users in Active directory. All things work perfect from that moment, but yesterday, when ik browsed at my mdbdata folder, i saw the new good priv. store, but also the old one. And this old one's date is also still updated afer a reboot of the server, so this old priv. information store, still is active, and take a lot of diskspace.
In my exchange's m-folder, i see al the new users i recreated, but also, 2 system folders. One of them begins with AE29... the other with D0... I think one of them is the old one.

In my backup exec log i see, that he backs up this 2 folders.

Can anyone tell me how i can delete this old system folder, so i can also delete this old priv.store and free up disk space ?

Thx

Georges,

You need to make sure that the mailbox store using these old databases is still not configured through the ESM. Look for a mailbox store and see if you have any users mailboxes still configured. You will probally see all of the old mailboxes if the mailbox store is still configured in the ESM. If it is run the Cleanup Agent on that mailbox store which will show all of the mailboxes disconnected with a Red X. You can either reconnect them to a different user account or purge them. Once you have cleaned up the mailbox store make sure that no one is using that store you can then unmount it. You can then successfully delete that mailbox stores databases. I would make sure you have a good backup of all of your stores before you do any purging or deleting. If you do not see any mailbox stores using those databases, I would just back them up with an offline backup method and then delete them. The transaction logs will be configured on the Storage Group, so check your Storage Groups to see what the prefix of the logs they are using before you blow away any log files.

Good Luck!

Hi Melry,

Thx for helping me.

I checked again my esm but i can't find a link to this old database.

I checked all my users mailbox configurations in AD but they are all configured to this new private store. I moved/recreate them when i accidently dismout my private store when i installed exchange for the first time.

I just checked now 'microsoft exchange system objects' AD and here i think i find the 2 sytem mailboxes. The old one(D029ff...) and the new one(AE297...);

Can i just delete this old one user account ? or do i have to remove the exchange attributes ?

thx

Georges,

I would back up the files to tape and then delete them if you are not using them. You problem have all of the old mailboxes from before AD got messed up in the old databases. Since the database files are not being used in the ESM (Mailbox Stores) I would say you are pretty safe to just remove them. Make sure you have a good backup before you do it incase something does not go right.

Good Luck.
