Please, look here

If you miss some emails, then it is probably located in a damaged area. In which case, the Microsoft standard tools such as scanpst.exe you will not be able to recover your mail. You should try to use third party software to recover PST file. From personal experience I can recommend you a utility to recover lost data files of the *.pst mail client Microsoft Outlook. This is Recovery Toolbox for Outlook. in 99% it recovers corrupted files PST and OST.

Hello,

You can use scanpst.exe (Inbox Repair Tool) a free utility provided by Microsoft to repair corrupted or damaged Outlook PST File. But this tool fails to repair high level corruption. If your PST File is highly corrupted then you need to move any third party utility. In the past, I had faced the same problem. When I searched over the internet about the best Repair Tool to repair corrupted PST File then I found a PST Repair Tool . Really, this tool worked great.

Thanks & Regards

Method 1 ““ Inbox Repair Tool
A simple tool that has been around for a long time from Microsoft which basically tries to repair the header of the PST file and delete anything from the file it does not recognize or understand.

Method 2 ““ Truncate Oversized PST File
The second reason why your PST file can become corrupted is because the file size limit for Outlook data files is 2 GB. The second you go over 2 GB, the entire file becomes corrupt! Not very smart, but it happens.

Method 3 ““ Recovery Toolbox for Outlook
If none of the methods above worked, you can try out a third party program called Recovery Toolbox for Outlook that can possibly save your file and recovery your emails.

The way it works is also safe because it creates a new PST file and then tries to copy over all of the data from the corrupted file. It scans the file and goes through several more steps to recover as much data as possible.

Well you are looking for a recommendation here, you might be confused as there are so many third-party recovery tools provided by different software vendors. They might be dubious, therefore you must examine the tool before you purchase any of them. Though examination of such tools one by one would be time-consuming, but will definitely help you get best result. I have used one such recovery tool for recovering mailbox data from corrupt Outlook data file. It is PST recovery tool provided by SysInfoTools Software. I can suggest you to try its free demo version first to check the preview of your recovered emails and other mailbox data.

Read more about this tool here: http://www.sysinfotools.com/recovery/pst-recovery.html

I hope this tool would be helpful.

Thanks.

Well, the first thing you should try to recover damaged pst file is to take the help of Inbox Repair Tool which is the built in utility for every single version of Outlook utility and is also known as scanpst.exe. Go through the bellow process to recover damaged PST files.

Step 1: Exit Outlook and start the Inbox Repair tool
Step 2: Repair the .pst file
Step 3: Recover repaired items to a new .pst file

Hi,SpencerStone

The Outlook PST file format is very complex. It starts with a file header containing the meta information of the whole file, followed by several parts containing the actual data. You can find more detailed information about the Outlook PST file format by searching on Google with the keyword “Outlook PST file format”. If the file header containing the meta information is corrupt, or any follow-up parts are damaged or corrupted, then you will not be able to open the file correctly with Outlook. In such a case, the first step is to try to use the built-in repair or recovery function in the Outlook, to see if it can repair or recover corrupted Outlook PST file for you. If not, then you need to resort to a third-party recover Outlook tool to scan the corrupted file and retrieve all recoverable data for you. It is also possible to find a data recovery expert or company to do the task, but in most of the cases, they will also use a third-party tool to do the recovery for you.

The main difference between using the software by yourself and by a third-party service company is:
(1) The company is familiar with the data recovery industry so he knows which software is the best one. While you need to search and compare the software online by yourself, which is time-consuming.
(2) The company purchases the software for multiple usages, while you purchase the software for one-time usage only. So normally the service fee may be cheaper than the license fee for the software.
(3) DIY will keep your data confidential while do the recovery via a company may cause data breach.

If you want to perform a DIY recovery, then you can try the following methods:

First, the Microsoft offical tool scanpst, also called Inbox Repair Tool, can repair the PST file, you can refer the following articles:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA010075831.aspx
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/272227
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/287497

2. If the above method does not work, then you can try DataNumen Outlook Repair at:

https://www.datanumen.com/outlook-repair/

I have used the tool in the past and it helps recovering some valuable data for me. The tool has a free demo so that you can try to see if it works on your file or not before you buy.

Hope this will help. Good Luck!
