Dear guru, I need to know how to configure MS Exchange 2003 enterprise where I can track the user sending and receiving emails from our company to outside competitors. I want to be able to open the email this person sent out to outside world. There are one person in our company that we are not 100% sure if she is sending our company secret to outside email address that I need to track down from our server email archive. I'm not sure how to configure this feature. Can you please help me accomplish this task? Thank you so much in advance. Regards, Dkirin

In this situation you should look at www.ivasoft.biz and choose Selective Journaling. Message tracking will only get you so far, the journaling will get you the content. Exchange 2003 can't do this at such a granular level hence the 3rd party solution.

My company just fired someone for doing that exact thing. I just leave the retention on our spam filter to 5 years, less if you dont have the space. This way I can see all emails that has ever touched our exchanged server, sent or recieved. I figure most companies have a spam filter solution or contract a third party to filter their emails. Works great when a user deletes an email too, I can just resend the email from the spam filter without using any recovery feature from the Exchange server.

You should be able to create an additional mailbox store, add that user to that store, and then enable envelope journaling. This should take care of that problem for you. Reason for creating a store is because Exchange journaling can only be done on a per store basis and not a per user basis.
