I'm setting a new installation of Exchang 2007 sp1 with iis 7 on a windows 2008 server x64. (this is for personal purposes, i'm just a student seeking for knowledge :P) I'm trying to set OWA to use IISADMPWD for 'change pw on next login'. As i read ms technet you have to register as a virtual directory c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\iisadmpwd and some .dll but when i go to look for that directory it doesn't exist!!! Some guy had the same problem (http://telnetport25.wordpress.com/2008/05/08/windows-2008-iis-7-the-exchange-2007-cas-and-iisadmpwd/) and he had the same problem, but he had a 2003 installation form where he copied this directory. Does anyone know any wrokaround? or might send me this directory please? Thanks in advance Sant

Exchange 2007 is different than Exchange 2003 as no additional configuration is required to enable Password Change feature for OWA 2007. If in a mixed env. with Exchange 2007 + 2003 then some registry changes are required. See this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684904(EXCHG.80).aspx

Thanks Peter. i've been reading carefully the article you gave me and i think i don't understand some things: 'The Change Password feature is provided from within Outlook Web Access and by Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and enables the user to use a Web browser to change their domain password. The Change Password feature is not specific to Microsoft Exchange. It is implemented by Outlook Web Access and the IISADMPWD virtual directory from inside IIS. Outlook Web Access provides the functionality to change passwords that have not expired yet. However, Outlook Web Access relies on functionality found in IIS if a password has already expired or if the user's mailbox is located on a server that is running an earlier version of Microsoft Exchange.' I believe that it's possible for OWA to change the password once the user HAS logged in the system and chooses 'options\change password'. But if I set the 'change on log on' the user is never logged so OWA can't handle the change password feature and that's why you need the IISADMPWD. Further more, i've tried with every combination of log in methods for iis and owa and i couldn't work it out. Thanks again, Santiago

As far as I know, IISADMPWD feature applies to Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 not Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008. The folder should appear on Windows 2003 when you install IIS, there is no folder found on Windows 2008 IIS and I could not see any additional roles/features to add this directory. The following text explains it simply: By default, the Change Password feature is implemented when you use both Exchange 2007 Client Access and Mailbox servers in your Exchange organization. It requires no additional configuration. Here's a list of files found in IISADMPWD: achg.asp, aexp2.asp, aexp2b.asp, aexp3.asp, aexp4.asp, aexp4b.asp, aexp.asp, anot3.asp, anot.asp, iipwchg.dll, text.asp.

i am having the same problems..... currently have the iisadmpwd working fine on the e2k7/server 2003 production boxes, but need to move the CAS to 2008 server (which is in development). i have seen many posts suggesting this is possible and have spent nearly a week going round in circles. most post suggest you can copy the folder from a 2003 64bit system and register the DLL, set the password change flags and the passwordexpiryprenotify etc etc but when trying to log in with an expired password or one set to change at next logon it wont let you in saying "the username or password that you entered is not valid"

I have found the same problem in any web based AD authentication. None of them like accounts set with 'Change password on next logon'. You have to turn that feature off for it to work properly. I have devised an 'activation' system using VB.NET and SQL so that new users can login with their known id and a known value for a password and 'activate' their account by changing their password and thus removing the 'Change password at next logon' flag.

I'm also trying to figure this one out. We have many users who logon the first time via OWA and are prompted to change their password at logon.
