Hi All, My first post! Be gentle I have setup my first Exchange 2003 server on Windows 2003 R2 and have an issue with my IMAP server. I am unable to connect to my IMAP server using any user other than Administrator. I can at least confirm that my firewall is setup correctly and my IMAP is working but for some reason when i try to connect as a normal mailbox-enabled user it refuses the connection. The only place I can think of that addresses this issue is in ADUC under exchange features and i can confirm the user has IMAP enabled, any suggestions? Kind Regards Andrew

Can you compare/verify the settings of the IMAP4 v.server? ESM ==> Administrative Group ==> First Administrative Group ==> IMAP4 ==> Default IMAP4 Virtual Server ==> Properties Access ==> Authentication?

Hi thanks for the reply. All three boxes are ticked, so (basic authentication, requires ssl/tls , and simple auth and security layer) Other things of note this is a little test box that im using to familirise myself with exchange. So its a DC running exchange, i noticied this morning that only Adminitrator can login to the system as hes the only user allowed to logon interactively but that seems correct. Afterall i only want these users to access shared drives and mail.

By increasing my logging on the server i have found more information on my problem, in the logs im getting the following errors: Authentication attempt from 192.168.1.10 to usera1 has failed with error 0x52e. & DS lookup for user usera1, connecting from 192.168.1.10, failed with error 0x80040920. & SSPI authentication attempt from 192.168.1.10 has failed with error 0x8009030c. No idea what these errors mean but i'll try to google it later tonight. Strange that the same authentication problems don't happen to the Administrator user though?

I know this thread is really old, but I thought I'd share the solution. I had exactly the same issue with Exchange 2003 when attempting to connect using IMAP (IPhone synchronisation). Found this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296387 Although it specifically mentions POP3 in the article, it's also relavent to IMAP4. Ben
