Hi, I have an Exchange 2K running on a Win2K Server which is also a DC, GC, DNS and WINS.

When i run a backup of the Information Store using the Windows Backup utility, i get the errors with Event ID: 478 & 8012. Basically, in the event log, it tells me that the .stm file is corrupt & that this backup cannot be restored.

I tried several possiblities of which I ran ESEUTIL and ISINTEG but i still received this error after a backup. I therefore moved all the mailboxes onto another (slower) Exchange Server and deleted the .edb & .stm file and then moved back the mailboxes but once again i started receiving this error!!

I do not wish to leave the mailboxes on the slow Exchange Server but i do not feel comfortable moving them to the faster Server knowing that a backup is not being done well.

What else can i do? Should i try uninstalling Exchange and installing it again? Or maybe Uninstall Exchange, demote the server, format it and then reinstall everything?...this is a hack of a job tho!

The expected checksum was 3201555365 (0xbed3dba5) and the actual checksum was 3198152133 (0xbe9fedc5). The read operation will fail with error -613 (0xfffffd9b). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.

hi,

Rebuilding the whole server is not a good option at this point.
> Try to disable any third party applicaiton like disclaimer and anitivirus.
> If you create a new storage group how is the behaviour.
> when you said u ran esetuil command which are the command you have ran like offline defragmentation?

Hi, Thank you for the quick response. I ran the following commands in this order:

1. eseutil /p
2. eseutil /d
3. Isinteg -fix -test alltests

As a 3rd party application, all i have running is TrendMicro antivirus. You think it may have something to do with it? It has been running for over a year and it is also running on the other Exchange server without any (known) problems.

When i re-created the storage group and ran backup, the backup resulted correct but as soon as i moved back 1 mailbox and ran the backup, the error appeared again! I also recreated it in a different folder (on the same disks).

do you have proper update of the store.exe
pls check this link : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836488

Run exbpa and exdra (www.exbpa.com)

Third run eseutil /g on the database to check for any orphaned or corrupted.

i installed the store.exe update, ran an eseutil /g and later an eseutil /p and it seems to have fixed the problem.

thanks a lot for you help...i will let you know if it gives me any more problems
