Hello, We resently installed our first Windows 2008 server with AD and installed exchange 2007 on the same server, we ran it in the workshop for a while and seemed to run fine, The server was then moved to another location and now I get the following problem. Exchange does not start all the way - most of the services are running but the service Microsoft Exchange Transport has a state of starting and trying to manually start the infromation store results in a 'service didn't start timeout message" checking the app log event logs I have the following error in the log - Process MAD.EXE (PID=1916). Topology discovery failed, error 0x80040a02 (DSC_E_NO_SUITABLE_CDC). Look up the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) error code specified in the event description. To do this, use Microsoft Knowledge Base article 218185, "Microsoft LDAP Error Codes." Use the information in that article to learn more about the cause and resolution to this error. Use the Ping or PathPing command-line tools to test network connectivity to local domain controllers. I am at a loss as what I should try next, any advice would reall y be apprcieted, I did try to look up the error code in the Kb article but the code is not mentioned in the article. Many Thanks for any help

as i see you install Exchange on the server but this problem maybe a DNS problem as the record for the GC and LDAP has been not updated in the DNS make sure that the server is in the right Site location and Also make sure that the DNS Setting are Up2date Run NSlookup what are the result Do some test with the DNS run NetDiag that come with the SUpport tools

Firstly Thanks for the replys, As suggested I have checked, security groups and the server is part of the security group, I have also run the setup.com /prepareAD it ran and completed sucsessfully, but the server is still having the same problem. I will now go and try the DNS path as suggested, once I have some news on that I will post back here. Many Thanks again for the help so far.

Farisnt, Thanks for the advice so far on the issue, I also think this might eb a DNS issue, but my knowledge of DNS setup is not that great unfortunatly. I have checked the DNS setup and it seems ok (checked forwarders etc. they all seem ok) I did run the NSLookup command and got the following results C:\Users\Administrator>nslookup Default Server: UnKnown Address: 10.1.108.94 > name Server: UnKnown Address: 10.1.108.94 *** UnKnown can't find name: Non-existent domain I am not DNS expert but server saying unknow seems like that would cause a problem, How would I go about checking the records for GC and LDAP as you suggested ? - Again thank you for your help on this.

HI First to know the problem when you move you server to another location.. its on a new subnet..with a new IP ?/ and what about the DNS matter Please open the DNS .. and open the forward lookup zone --> is there any Yellow Folder named such _msdcs.yourdomainName , if so .. then you will find in it the GC record and the DC and the other critical information for exchange and other service to be able to communicate with the Domain Create a new Reverse Lookup zone, that have the network ID for the new location run this command on the Main Server and on the exchange server ipconfig /registerdns

Hello Farisnt When we moved the server the IP address changed the sunect remained the same. Ok I checked under the DNS under forward lookup zones, opened the DC and GC, I worked through all the folders looking for and finding sometime records that still showed the old IP address of the server, I updated all the recods I could find and also created a A record in the DC with the IP address of the server. I added a Reverse lookup and specified the ip address of the server. I then ran the ipconfig /registerdns, I waited 15 minutes but I am still having the problem, thank you for your help and patience on this problem, any other suggestions ? - and thanks again

HI These Record should be automaticlly updated after you run the command IPconfig /registerdns Did you create a PTR Record on the Reversed Lookup Zone Is the Domain Controller on the Same site running Global Catalog if yes .. then you must forst exchange to select the Global catalog Server http://forums.msexchange.org/m_1800463281/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#1800463281 Run NSlookup Still getting the Unknown server ??? If when you run the NSlookup and you get the server name.. type this C:\>Nslookup Default Server: main.domain.local Address: 192.168.0.2 > set type=ns > domain.local Server: main.skyas.local Address: 192.168.0.2 domain.local nameserver = main.domain.local domain.local nameserver = isa.domain.local main.skyas.local internet address = 192.168.0.2 isa.domain.local internet address = 192.168.0.1 If yes, run this command Z:\>nslookup gc._msdcs.Domain.local Are you able to get the Global catalog..???? Another method Add Exchange Server's account to the Domain Admin group and rebooted Tell me .. Is there any other domain in the network or this is the only domain in the network ???

Hello Farisnt Thanks for the reply, I checked all the suggestions again, the data DNS returned all seemed good, and I can confirm that there are no other domains on this network. I have however found the fix for this problem no doubt the DNS would have cause me problems and many thanks for help me getting is fixed, I have ordered a book on DNS as this seems to be the one thing I always get stuck on. The fix that finally got it all working was this: Ipv6 was disabled, by simply enabling it all the services started and the exchange came online. I was unaware that IPv6 was so critical to the workings of ex2k7 - this might be because it is server 2008 + exchange 2007. Enabling IPv6 sorted the problem out Thank you Farisnt - your help has been much appreciated.

Hello every one... To resolve this issue, you can follow these steps :) 1- Click Start, and then click Run. 2- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK. 3- In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: 4- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\VirusScan 5- In the right pane, double-click Enabled. 6- Click Decimal, type 0 in the Value data box, and then click OK. 7- On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor. 8- And start the Information Store NOW. Good Luck; Farhad Nakahayee Tabasheer Engineering Company www.Tabasheer.net
