Hi,

I'm trying to install Exchange 2007 Mailbox Role and Unified Messaging Role, I;ve installed the Hub Transport and CAS Role on a different Server [server A] succesfully, but on the second server [Server B] I got an error Like This :

Exchange Server component Mailbox Role failed.
Error: Error:
Property IsMailboxServer cannot be set on this object because it requires the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. Current version of the object is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).

I'm guessing it's because the server B's  name was previously used as an Exchange 2003 server, but the old Exchange 2003 server itself was already uninstalled  about a year ago, I've tried searching the web and found a similar problem [different server role, same error], the solution recommended was to remove the server role first, but i received a similar error as when I was trying to install which is

Exchange Server component Mailbox Role failed.
Error: Error:
Property IsProvisionedServer cannot be set on this object because it requires the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. Current version of the object is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).

I've checked the LDAP Attributes of the second server using ADSIEDIT, comparing it with the first server I noticed 2 attributes that shows Version number

1. msExchVersion
It was 4535486012416 on server A but it was empty on Server B
2. serialNumber
Server A listed the value as Version 8.1 (Build 30240.6) while server B was again Empty.

Anyone ever experienced anything like this ? I'm thinking of reinstalling Server B with a different Name but I would like to know if it's possible to fix it. and if it does come to reinstalling and renaming the server How should I remove the previous Installation from the exchange org ?

Thx b4

hi mate,

Install windows support tool
open the Adsiedit.msc
Expand the configuration
Expand Services
Expand Microsoft Exchange
Expand the organization name
Expand Administrative group
Make sure are you able to First Administrative Group"?
If so try to expand it and then expand servers and see whether it is listing the problematic server name.

If so take the system state backup and delete that server name.

Then re-run the exchange setup

Ismail,

Thanks for the reply, but i have some questions before I delete the server object in ADSIEDIT.

after I delete the server, should I just re run the setup ? because the current server state is partially installed, [Management tools only]

hi,

If you delete that server object, re-run the setup if the management tool installed successfully it is not show that option to select it.

Ismail,

just wanted to confirm  when you said

"Expand Administrative group
Make sure are you able to First Administrative Group"?
If so try to expand it and then expand servers and see whether it is listing the problematic server name. "

you do mean the exchange 2007 Administrative group right ? I'm doing a transition from exchange 2007 and the problematic server is under the exchange 2007 Administrative group.

not the exchange 2007 administrative group.

When you are doing transition you will see two groups one is for exchange 2007 and another is for 2003 which is nothing but First Administrative Group

I have multiple exchange 2003 Administrative Groups [representing branch site] but the problematic serer isn't listed in the any of the groups, instead it is in the exchange 2007 Administrative group, would it still be ok to delete the server object ?

hi mate,

Please run the exbpa.. paste the output which is indicating problem

After deleting that object information, have you rebooted the server?

Is this what you need ? ExBpa just shows that it can't connect to the server, which is a given since the server isn't even installed properly

Hi,

Just to update the thread,

I ended up renaming the computer on which I installed Exchange 2007, as I know the previous name was used before. still like to figure out why the old name is still considered an exchange 2003 server. so if there is any one who know ?

Thanks
