I currently have an Exchange 2003 server running on a Windows 2000 AD domain. I want to add an additional Exchange Server 2003 with the intentions of moving users over to the new server. The new server runs Windows 2003 Enterprise R2. I have Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP1. When I try to install exchange on the new server as an additional server I am stopped and told that I either need to rerun domain./prep or create a Recipient Update Service. Should I not be able to add an additional exchange server? Domain/prep has already been run with the installation of the exchange server that is already running.

Sounds like you are trying to install the additional exchange server in a different domain than the existing server. Is this correct?

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere in the forum but I was unable to find it. I want to install a second exchange server, but ideally have it as a failover to the current exchange server. Is it possible, and can it be seamless (if main goes down, email still runs through secondary exchange server)? They would both be on the same domain (in the same building). We're running Windows Server 2003 on both servers. Any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated. I'm sort of learning as I go here, but I'm all my company has to go with ...

cbarilone, If you want high-availability with Exchange Server, you will need to look into clustering, but clustering isn't something you should fumble in the dark with. You will need at least 2 servers with (near) identical hardware and a SAN to get started. djames12, Sounds to me like you have (at least) 3 servers: 1 Windows 2000 DC, 1 Windows 2000 Server with Exchange 2003 and 1 Windows 2003 Server with Exchange 2003, is that correct? What is the functional level of your Windows 2000 domain?
