You need to setup the server as a Domain Controller (DC).

One thing I ran into was a conflict between LDAP on Exchange and Active Directory Services trying to both use port 389. There is a technote on this if you run into the problem. Lorna

I think it would be better off to have 5.5 installed on a 2k member server. It works best also when you need to do a rebuild or take the server out of commision its a lot eayser, also it works best with owa too.

I just installed Exchange 5.5 w/ SP4 on my Windows 2000 server. (Member Server) It works fine. But, if you going to install Exchange on W2K running AD. You should considering moving to Exchange 2000. Question if you can help? Is this your first exchange server, or are you adding a second exchange to the same site. I happened to add a second Exchange to my site. I am trying to move Exchange to a different server. I can move mail box over. But, I am not sure how to configure the second IMS. If I create a second MX record on the DNS server pointing to my new exchange server. Would mail be delivery to both server?

One thing I did notice is the IIS 5.0 will fail to load the exfilter.dll (name?) from Exchange 5.5 sp3. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks, Danny

On a Windows 2000 Server/Adv Server, the Exchange service account MUST be a part of the Administrators group. See MS Online Knowledge Base.
good luck

It is possible to install exch 5.5 on a win2k box.
I currently run 6 exchange servers in a multiple site configuration on windows 2000 with no problems, if anything the reliabilty appears to be better!
One of the previous mail recommnded that exchange be installed on a member server as opposed to a DC, this is sound advice and will solve a lot of problems, basically a DC and a mail server perform two seperate jobs, they should be kept apart.
