I found an article on the internet about installing Exchange on Win2K3.  The article can be found here: http://mike-tech.com/article.php?gif=exchange2k&article=254

To sum it up you need to have everything up and running on a win2k server machine with exchange 2000 running.

But after checking the event log I see a bucnh of errors.  It turns out that they are all dependant upon the Microsoft Exchange Store.  How can I make sure that this service starts.

MSExchangeFBPublish is the name of the service that reported the store wasnt running.  However the Service Control Manager reported that POP3, EXIFS & IMAP4 failed to start becuase of the dependancy on the Microsoft Exchange Store.

I would really like to use our new OS for Exchange, however I do not think that we can spring for the MS Excange 2003 - has anyone had a success with this before?

I have seen many different issues when installing exchange 2000 on windows 2003. Maybe you should check this out before proceeding. I have also seen cases where it works fine but when it doesnt, its HELL!!! Just my 2 cents

The Information Store service does not start when you install Exchange 2000 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, and the Exchange 2000 forestprep command fails on the Windows Server 2003-based computer

You cannot install Exchange 2000 on Windows 2003 due the major differences of IIS 6 to IIS 5, which Exchange depends upon. I would stick with Windows 2000 for now if you cannot afford Exchange 2003.
Its either Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 or Exchange 2003 on either Windows 2000 or 2003.
