I need to create a Public folder database. after reading some articles i noticed some menu items were missing. Eventually it came to the installation is not up to SP1 (Exc 2007). Current version = Version: 08.00.0685.018 Before i install it i have some questions: 1. Are there any issues after installing SP1 that your aware of? Any "beware of"? 2. Any recommendations to install it or should i just double click the exe and "next" all the way? 3. Following this i will install Public Folders via the console - again any issues with using this method? 4. This is a full version of Exchange 2007. I am right in saying this download http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=44C66AD6-F185-4A1D-A9AB-473C1188954C&displaylang=en is the FINAL sp1 and has no limitations? i.e. expires after 120 days? Thanks

The service pack is the full installation. You can install Exchange 2007 from the SP download only. However it will detect your existing installation and update that. The install is relatively easy, it just does everything for you. I have done it many times without any issues. The only thing that has caught a few people out is the FQDN on the receive connectors, but that is flagged by the update. Simon.

Thanks....i had the exact problem you described. I was RDP'd into the server when i lost my connection so couldnt get back on the original connection. Reading the event viewer i have three errors: 1. Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSetup Event Category: Microsoft Exchange Setup Event ID: 1002 Date: 05/12/2008 Time: 19:49:18 User: N/A Computer: Exc1 Description: Exchange Server component Hub Transport Role failed. Error: Error: When the AuthMechanism parameter on a Receive connector is set to the value ExchangeServer, you must set the FQDN parameter on the Receive connector to one of the following values: the FQDN of the transport server "exc1.domain.local", the NetBIOS name of the transport server "Exc1", or $null. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. and second Event Type: Error Event Source: MsiInstaller Event Category: None Event ID: 10005 Date: 05/12/2008 Time: 19:50:37 User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: Exc1 Description: Product: 64 Bit HP BiDi Channel Components Installer -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753. The arguments are: ipm12.8444768D_9A2B_44BE_BD52_02FB1B25C55E, , For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Data: 0000: 7b 46 38 37 37 36 30 36 {F877606 0008: 30 2d 36 39 32 39 2d 34 0-6929-4 0010: 38 30 43 2d 39 43 44 30 80C-9CD0 0018: 2d 41 44 34 39 32 30 43 -AD4920C 0020: 33 35 34 45 46 7d 354EF} Im searching around with the solution to these errors but so far i noticed i cant start Pop 3 or IMAP4 services. Would this effect users sending receiving emails from their normal Outlook account? and if you know the solution to the errors please advise. 3rd Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeTransport Event Category: TransportService Event ID: 12014 Date: 05/12/2008 Time: 20:03:15 User: N/A Computer: Exc1 Description: Microsoft Exchange couldn't find a certificate that contains the domain name mail.domain.co.uk in the personal store on the local computer. Therefore, it is unable to support the STARTTLS SMTP verb for the connector Outgoing Through DNS with a FQDN parameter of mail.domain.co.uk. If the connector's FQDN is not specified, the computer's FQDN is used. Verify the connector configuration and the installed certificates to make sure that there is a certificate with a domain name for that FQDN. If this certificate exists, run Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Services SMTP to make sure that the Microsoft Exchange Transport service has access to the certificate key. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. ALTHOUGH i can send and receive emails so not sure what this would mean - any solutions on these? Thanks again for your help.

The first one is easily fixed by changing the receive connector to the server's real name. That caught me out. The second one I haven't seen before so can't help with that. The third one would be resolved if you had a SAN certificate on the server that had the FQDN on it. POP3/IMAP not starting has also been reported before. I would also suggest that you install the latest rollup. If you had thought of that before then you can actually deploy the rollup at the same time as the service pack. Simon.

Do you have a commercial SSL certificate on the server? If not then you should do. Self generated certificates that are put in place at setup are not designed for production use. If you are using Outlook Anywhere or Exchange ActiveSync then they aren't even supported! I outlined the full process for the certificates on my blog here: http://www.sembee.co.uk/archive/2008/05/30/78.aspx The IIS errors I cannot help with. That isn't something I have seen. I don't even know if it is Exchange related. Have you installed the post service pack rollups? There is an issue where some services do not start. I haven't seen it myself, but IMAP/POP3 is not something I use very often, if at all. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944752 Simon.

A commercial certificate avoids trust issues when you use the web services, like OWA, EAS, Outlook Anywhere. You do not have to install the certificate on to the devices, etc. The post SP updates I am referring to are post Exchange 2007 service pack 1 updates. The link you have posted is connected to an unsuccessful service pack installation. If you have managed to install the service pack then it doesn't apply. Simon.

The post SP updates I am referring to are post Exchange 2007 service pack 1 updates. I ONLY installed the .Net Framework and after that ran SP1 which was running fine until i had the error with the hub (Error 1 from my 3rd post). Im guessing the installation has failed. AFTER this i ran windows update and installed rollup KB952580 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8B492ED2-EA92-412F-A852-3AA1C58D9499&displaylang=en This is when i receive the IIS errors. Now i think this is what i could do. Uninstall KB952580, which brings me back to SP1 with the original errors and try to go on from there as this only listed 2-3 errors? Do you think this is a good idea? UPDATE: Ive uninstalled the above KB but errors remain. If i was to reinstall the Service Pack would this look to install all over? I have a starnge hunch that since the SP failed at the Hub Transport, therefore its not installed the remaining files and left it to that which could be causing these errors? Most errors claim a file is missing.

I create all public folders through Outlook. Never use the server management tools. Unless you meant you wanted to create a public folder store? In that case you could have used EMS. Although SP1 should have been installed a long time ago. It has been out for ages. Simon.
