Morning All.  I am new to this forum and am hoping for some help; I have seen a number of posts about migrating to 2007 but, after reading quite a few, am not sure if they cover my situation.

I am new to the school I am working in and have inherrited a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain.  The domain has been setup with 2 Windows 2003 Domain Controllers, 1 Windows 2000 Domain Controller and an Exchange 2003 Server (also setup as a Domain Controller).  I haven't done a great deal with Exchange but I am sure that having an Exchange Box setup as a DC is bad practice?  Can anyone confirm my understanding of this please?

The current Exchange Server has been setup on a RAID5 Array with two logical partitions - C and D.  I thought best practice was for 3 Arrays - Mirrored OS, RAID5 Database and Mirrored Logs?  Can anyone confirm understanding of this please?  This server is old and needs to be replaced.

If I am going to upgrade the server hardware, it seems it would make sense to upgrade to Exchange 2007.  I thought about doing an inplace upgrade (if this is possible?) backup, and then restore to new hardware but that would not solve the disk problem.  I am guessing I will need to build a server with a different name and migrate the exchange data to this server?  I would not configure this server as a domain controller but keep it as a member server.  Would it be possible to rename the server after mail migration?  Is there a migration plan that Microsoft OFfers for 2003->2007?  Are there any documents / white papers that explain how to do a migration that I am planning?

Any help / tips would be welcomed.

Many thanks,
